Today's DVD Extra: 15 Minute Porch Makeover

You knew I couldn't stand it another second. LOL I "shopped" my house for pillows, accessories, plants, and food. I found a can of spray paint in the garage and painted (sloppily, but I'll go over it again) my easel and resin mirror. Now I think I'm sticking with the green. I will keep looking for a rug and fabric for the chairs.

Before

After

Oh, this was fun. But I'm still tinkering. :-)

  1. Oh my!! You are just like me when I get a "bee in my bonnet" as the old folk used to say. I think it looks great!! The resin mirror is awesome on the easel, and those plants, real or fabulous faux?? (they look real) are the frosting on the cake. Another question Gollum, how do you make your pictures look like color sketchings? I like your pillows propped on the bistro chairs, hope they're the outdoor kind. I just glanced at some nice ones at Home Depot after breakfast this morning, then I was on to JoAnn Fabrics to look for cornice material (they have a sale going of course)..Your talent and creativity along with the many others on RMS, does nothing but inspire me, at times to the point of distraction. Who wants to work anyway??

  2. Amazing what a little trip "shopping" in one own's house can do. This looks fabulous and I soooo love it~!! I have to do something with my front portico since you've now inspired me to do so.

  3. The plants are real, but I bought them for the downstairs patio (near a hose pipe). The bee balm can take full sun, but the 2 pink fountains can't. But they were sitting in their pots, waiting for me to dig holes, so I "borrowed" them. The bee balm smells sweet--I bought it Thursday at the supermarket for $8, and it's a rather big pot. I need to go back and get more for the butterfly garden downstairs. I wanted to hang the mirror but was afraid I'd crack the stucco. I wonder if I can paint a border on the rug???

  4. Well.. this was great fun.. and got my wheels going once again to get started on yet another project around here... don't you love being able to spray an idea into existance? You are incredible.. are you going to do more?? When I go to gals homes to help them that's the first thing we do.. is shop in "their" homes before leaving to go to the shop..I would love to see the rug with a border on it... can't wait for the next update on your project.. ~lynne~

  5. absolutely! you can use regular paint too..I saw an hgtv segment on painting rugs, as they said you can never get paint out of any fabric you spill on, so it works. Ahhh, one thing leads to another. We are getting hit with a torrential monsoon storm as I type..hope my computer doesn't go out..I would cry to not check on these rooms!

  8. Gollum your patio make-over is brilliant, I am so envious of that bistro set, the little green teapot and the vase compliment your glass tea plates and reflect in your mirror to great effect. Your pot's of flowers are great and so are those pretty pillows. what a perfect little spot to have tea and cake. enjoy.

*** GG, I can SOOOOO "see" you, and a friend, sitting here and enjoying a lovely cuppa and a lil' "tasty treat" like those precccccious butterfly cookies ~~~ OR, in the evening with DH after dinner, enjoying a lovely cup of coffee and/or a charming desert wine with the YUMMY-LOOKING Birthday cake!!! You KNOW living in the desert here wreaks HAVOC on one's desires for pretty flowers in the summertime, but, I DID have some ideas for you! (Only now it looks like "you've got it under beauuuutiful control", girlfriend!). ABSOLUTELY ENCHANTING!!! "Yer the ma'am!", darlin'!!!~~~ Hugs, Linda

  16. This is a fabulous fifteen minute makeover!!!! It is amazing what one can use for double-duty purposes when one puts their mind to it. With regards to painting the sisal rug; yes you can definitely do it. An easy method is to use a stencil for the pattern and craft paints (just the tiny acrylic bottles used for tole painting) mixed with a fabric medium (following manufacture's instructions.) For best application use a FOAM pouncer or a mini FOAM roller. Both work really well! For surface protection I wud also suggest Scotchguarding it. (It acts as a sealer and repels most stains. I use it on such items as my homemade table lines, cushions, outdoor decorations such as Christmas wreaths etc. Home Depot or a lot of large Grocery stores carry it.) I definitely love what you've done!!!

  17. Wow! This looks great...love that you did it by shopping your home! Wonderful transformation! I wonder how it would look if you hung the mirror from the railing with outdoor ribbon...since you don't want to put a hole in the stucco. Susan

  19. I love all of your ideas--please keep them coming. Thanks so much for the information about painting the rug. I'm going to try it before going out to look for another. Susan, what a wonderful idea. When I was on the patio earlier, the wind tipped the mirror off the easel. The ribbon will be perfect.

THANK YOU, GG~~~ gonna definitely go to those sites and do some ordering for family and friends!!! (They're PERFECT "Just cuz I love you" and "I'm thinking of you" gifts!!!). BTW, you may remember I have a huuuge mirror on our covered patio, and one actually in the sun... a little velcro will keep them just a tad "safer" in windy weather ~~~ at least it works well for me way up here in the hills, where we get ALOT of wind at times!Thought you might like to know! XOXOXO, Linda

  22. Gollum, The more I look at your bistro chairs the more I think that they would be perfect for my inspiration mission, I do not know where you live so I cannot come by with a truck so I am gonna ask nicely how much would you take for them?. Kathy.
