Dish Hunt

There are duck hunts and fox hunts--but dish hunts are much more to my liking. My favorite store made a tablesetting with Johnson Brothers china.

Here's a closer view.

Rumor has it that these gray blue Chesterson Harker dishes will be going on sale for $75 (for the lot). Oh, Tablescapers, talk me out of it.

Although I could store them under the bed. I also love the white dishes on the bottom shelf.

I looked twice at these pretty turkey dishes, but a wee bird wispered in my ear that they weren't old and could be bought for less at the outlet store. It's a good thing I'm not a bird dog, because I sure didn't pick up that scent. :-)

But I do love the green pitcher. I must go back and check the price.

  2. What a wonderful little store Gollum, those gray blue CH dishes are beautiful and $75 for that lot, what a bargain!. I found myself lingering by the china section while out shopping today but no such bargains here. I agree the pitcher is great, oh wonder how many dishes you can fit under the bed hehe. Kathy.

  9. Good Morning Gollum,
I wouldn't have been able to resist that green pitcher, when it comes to green, weather it's dishes or glassware, I'm right there with Martha Stewart. I don't know if you ever noticed how much green she has. This year, when I decided to by those short red stems that we used for Thanksgiving, so that the kids wouldn't keep knocking their glasses over, it took me months to buy them because I wanted to buy them in the green and kept fighting with myself. I just love green. GIRL, GO BACK AN BUY THE PITCHER.

  10. I rarely turn down anything that's a bargain. Even if I don't have room for it. If you really like those dishes then buy them, otherwise you will regret it later on.

  11. Oh Gollum...You know I love this post! I always enjoy a little virtual shopping spree... especially since I've reached my dish quota for this month! It's awfully hard to pass up the $75 deal on that beautiful gray blue china. I'm afraid they would have already hopped in my trunk by now! Sometimes it's best for me just to stay at home!! Love that store, by the way...Debbie

  17. Hi Gollum!
When I was a wee tot, my grandmother had a green pitcher, just like the one in your photos. She also had the goblets. (HEAVIEST THINGS EVER!) I remember wanting to drink out of them so badly, because it made me feel so adult, but anytime she'd let me use one, I'd inevitably spill whatever it was that was in it because the goblet was much too heavy for my little hands. Thank you for conjuring up those old memories!

  19. Gollum,

I love those white dishes on the bottom shelf too!

I am so mad at you because you have me shopping around for dishes now! (LOL) Quite a few years back I was heavily into the "Shabby Chic", Rachel Ashwell look. My bedroom was totally Shabby Chic! I had (and still have) a beautiful white & rosebud serving tray to hold my parfum. I had a few ironstone bowls to. I also had a beautiful light blue and soft pink teacup and saucer set. (set of six) It was so dainty! It was hand painted and signed by the artist back in 1959. I could smack myself into next week for getting rid of it!

This weekend I am going to a few thrift shops! I will be sure to blog about it.

  22. Gollum - I know there must be a store as elegant as this one somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, but I haven't found it yet. Seeing those wonderful china displays was almost as good as being there. I especially love the blue dishes! Fieldstone/Pam

You deserve those dishes, you know you do, you work hard and always take care of everybody else's needs and wants, besides you may never find them at this price again and then you'll regret it.....Oh wait, I forgot we were talking about you. 30. Just wanted to stop by and say thank you for your well wishes when I was down for the count. I appreciated it.

Lovely xmas decorating by the way! I always love looking at your home pics.

  31. Yea! So glad you went for it...they are beautiful AND vintage...great deal for that price! I see a future Tuesday tablescape in the making. :-) That is soooo nice...how you spent your day...I know all those seniors appreciated you...especially if you drove threw all the rain we've had the last two days to get there. If you don't use placemats...maybe some chargers will catch your eye. I broke down about a year ago and invested in 12 chargers in white and 12 in a cream color from Horchow, so I'd have chargers for just about any china I use. It was a bit expensive initially, but has worked out pretty well. The white ones have sort of a swirl design repeat around the edge and the cream have a lace design. I can't buy anymore china now until I have a butler's pantry built...I'm slap out of room...it's official. :-) Susan
