A Few Pages From Gollum's Tablescaping Scrapbook

Oh, my. I was trying to replicate one of Betty Lou Phillips' French Country tablescapes, making sure to have an uneven number of objects.
The ball kept rolling off, and the Yorkies would chase it!

The old painting (2 boys) went into the library. A watercolor by a local artist took its place.

Moving right along to the other chest. I used a small tray as a book holder. I love old books.

In the spring, I will place my eggcups on this tray.

Y'all DO know, don't you, that I am a lamp 'ho? Yes. It's true. I hoard lamps and switch them all the time. I even have a Lamp and Pillow Ho Closet.

My friend DeAnn found these egg prints in a Louisiana shop, and since I have chickens, she thought of me. Dr. Gollum bought them for a Valentine's gift (DeAnn and and I orchestrated it, though. lol)

Then DeAnn and Allison helped me hang the prints. I smile every time I feather dust this little vignette. I wish I had an upclose photo of the lamps. They are embellished with little nests and eggs.

Some things come together in a snap; other things need a village, and a friend who thinks of you and says, "You must see these egg prints!"

  1. Oh Gollum I really liked the way you used that tray for the old books...now I need to rethink of doing something like that as I too love old books..I bet the Yorkies did a ball with the ball...aren't they just the most cutest little things in the world..when I was out yesterday I seen one that was 8 months old and her name was sassy and I picked it up and it just kissed and loved me to death!! and can't you belive someone gave it to her because they were moving and could't have it..why can't I find someone to just give me one?? Your home looks beautiful as always...hows that book coming girl!! get some more Cheesecake and get on it..hugs and smiles Gloria

  4. You know, it's funny - this morning as I began looking at the photos in your post I was struck by the notion of how important lamps are in each of your designs. And how they frequently change. I kept going back to check out the lamps wondering if you had changed shades, lamps or if I was losing it. As I continued reading, I had the proverbial "ah ha" moment... what a wonderful confession.

  5. You are too funny! I adore Betty Lou Phillips books too. I also fancy beautiful lamps and lots of pretty pillows and change them around constantly. We are alot alike in that way. Ha! I always enjoy reading your blog and seeing your beautiful house.

  6. My husband doesn't understand my lamp and table fetish at all. I've had to resort to storing the old lamps on his pool table in the basement. I guess that's why he isn't happy when I look at more lamps.
It sounds like you have a wonderful friendship with Allison and DeAnn.

  7. Good morning Gollum! I love your egg prints even if they are kinda far. I have seen one similar in a local store here. MY dh collects eggs and I almost bought it for him but I just did not have a place to put it cause his collection is taking over. I need a bigger house. LOL....Christine

  9. Good morning Sweet Gollum, I am loving the tray with the books.. What a unique way to display the books and use a tray. I love that you're a "lamp". I may have to borrow that phrase now and again. You and DeAnn did an excellent job of orchresting the Valentines gift.lol. It's always more fun when you have a friend in your corner cheering you on and lending help. I'm glad the goats didn't get out. Sure hope you got some propane in. We use to be on propane years ago and it was such a worry this time of year. You had to keep a close eye on the gauge. You are such a sweetie..

  12. I like that tray with books idea. Beautiful, as always.

I always try to remember the uneven number thing. The other day, while decorating the living room tree, I was using white, gold and glittery poinsettia's, I'd picked up at Michael's. I could find only 4! Oh no! I always buy in odd numbers, when purchasing silks. How could I come home with just 4!! I breathed a sigh, when I found the 5th stem, in the kitchen, of all places! How did it get there! No idea.

  14. Hi Gollum...I love your idea of the books in the tray. Those egg prints look gorgeous! Everything is beautiful as always. Isn't it funny how the critters in the house always have to come watch the chages going on? Love your comment on being a lamp 'ho! Have a great day...Debbie

  15. hehe you had fun yesterday Gollum, that's how I think decorating should be and you're a lamp and pillow ho! ho! ho!.

I love what you did with your old books and the tray, I am gonna have to pinch that idea :)

With the financial crisis around the world the brits are flocking by the lorry load to the charity shops, my son took me to a couple (there are in fact eight where he lives) oh the books, I was in book heaven and the best thing was the price tags, I came away with half a dozen new and classics, not knowing whether I would even be able to get them all back here, then my dad, bless him, was so excited to have found me The life and times of Edward VII volumes I, II and III, Yikes!!!

The taxi driver said (upon picking up my ample suitcases) "Blimey love, wot you got in ere then a dead body or somefink".

Lovely to see some more of your artpieces too Gollum, hugs, Kathy.

  16. I'll have to steal your idea on the books with the tray. What a great idea. Your rooms are always so interesting. Gollumn, I love lamps too, but it takes me forever to find and purchase exactly what I want. It's amazing what, clue, paint and do to lamps and other decor items. Lovely
    Happy Holidays,

  19. "My name is Jules...and I too am a pillow/lamp-a-holic"... Has the 12-step program begun? Count me in. I'm forever swapping mine out and playing "musical lamps". Sadly, with the arrival of the new Wii system for the basement's game room, I have to clear a few away. Wouldn't want any to get knocked over with my spastic tennis backhand swing. I'm glad to see I'm not alone in my penchant for these "instant ambiance changing" accessories. (I don't dare count the lights in my family room... not including the overhead lighting, I think I'm close to a dozen!) I can't resist a fun accent light at a bargain price!

  20. Wow Gollum as usual your room and decorating is impeccable... I love it and who cares how many people in the village it takes... The end result is always what counts and yours counts BIG time... Have a great afternoon...

  21. Hi Gollum,

I'm still trying to get my decorations up, but I had to come and see what you were up to today. As usual, another great post. I love it all. :)

I wanted to mention the other day (your Nov. 30th post) that I saw pierced dishes with your new turkey platters. Did you see Susan's post on her dises? She shows her Spode Tower (Pink) set the way I picture your dishes.

My break is over, back to making bows, so I can work on my writing exercise tonight.

    Ciao

  22. Well, you and DeAnn, and Allison are more than welcome to come to NY and dig through my 'ho closets, heck you can go through the 'ho basement! LOL! I'm going through such a tough time right now. I was asked to bid on a room in a decorators' show house - and it's some sick sorta "survivor" decorator thing cause you only have 3 days to come up with a design and send it in. I've already had to drop one of the rooms. Here's to hoping they pick me!

  23. Cute idea, love the books in the tray....I 'm loving that painting of the two boys I bet it looks great in the library, too. The eggs prints are cute (great idea) and LOVE those bird and nest lamps. I'll have to post my bedroom one of these days (after I get all the bags full of Christmas gifts off the floor -LOL) my headboard has little birds on it. ~ Robyn

  26. Hello Gollum, Love your new tablescape and the scale of objects with the picture. And little Mister...I could just eat him up. Your booktray is very clever, I don't think I have seen that done before! I have to admit to the lamp addiction myself, have them stashed (hidden from DH) away wherever I can when not in use. Please let me ask again, is that stairway in the second picture with the fabulous bannisters, along with the gorgeous living room Christmas tree and tabletop in the foreground (3rd picture)yours? As I have suggested to Susan before, and certainly this goes for you as well, you need to publish your home in a coffee table book. Add it to your list for us to look at without being in front of the computer! Thanks for the fun read, Jan

  27. Okay, you chair, dish, lamp, book and pillow "ho'"... umm..am I forgetting anything?..oh yeah.. yorkies! Love that you shared your closet with us. I have a similar closet brimming with the usual suspects as well. It's so much fun going in there to find an old lost "friend", I had forgotten about. Of course, that happens more frequently now since I've been on Lipitor!
Thanks for the visit.. wish that Mister and Duchess could have romped around and played a bit.
