Pink Saturday

It's Pink Saturday!

I've always loved pink--so the minute I found out about "Pink Saturday," I emailed Beverly at How Sweet the Sound. Beverly hosts this fabulous, weekly event. Please visit her blog to take a gander at today's participants. http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/

Pink-stemmed crystal is a delicate thing.

Paired with coral roses and a flower-strewn Limoges bowl, you can breathe in the pinkness of it all.

Four pilsner glasses hold pink and coral roses.

Limoges and pink go together like biscuits and jam--at least, in my pink world.

I love any food that has a touch of pink--here, ham and creamy brie peek out of a puff pastry roll.

Coral roses always make my heart speed up.

The pink flowers in Desert Rose pottery just make food taste better for some reason.

Each soup spoon has an engraved "G" ...it must stand for Gollum, surely.

A closer peek at the potato soup and the "Desert Rose" pottery.

"G" or no "G" on the flatware, Dr. Gollum needs a more substantial soup spoon. :-) Therefore, I must go shopping immediately to find one!

Mister sits on a pinky coral chair cushion. "Please save me a bite," he says.

  10. Glad you are joining us for Pink Saturday! I took your advise the other night and I too will be making the puff pastry with ham, asparagus and brie. My Dad will love it. Hopefully, I will remember to give him his Christmas chocolates...Then your potato soup in the bread bowl looks yummy, too. Is that a baked potato soup? Mmmm. Mister looks as adorable as ever. ~ Robyn

  11. Robyn, this soup will thicken in a heartbeat. Actually, it needed more chicken broth. But I had an altercation with Young Gollum at Publix--over chicken broth. I said I needed 2 big boxes, and he said I was being frivolous. Next time he'll listen. lol

    Potato Soup
Peel 4 potatoes, cube into uneven chunks, set aside (not for long). Render fat from 3 slices bacon (cut up into pieces). Add chopped onions and celery. Add butter. Sautee. Add garlic and sautee until veggies are almost translucent. Now add potatoes and 2 (2, Young Gollum!) boxes of organic chicken stock. Salt and pepper to taste. Cook potatoes until tender. Add 1 c heavy cream plus 1/2-1 c warm water and add to broth. Blend and simmer just a few minutes longer. Serve in bread bowl, garnish with flat Italian parsley.

I'm always looking for variations and improvements. I'd love to hear your potato soup adventures.

The puffies were too easy. Thaw 1 sheet Pepperidge Farm puff pastry sheet on a greased baking pan. When they sheet is pliable, about 15 min, run a rolling pin over it (sometimes I skip this). Cut into squares. Brush each square with stone ground mustard--lightly. Add chopped ham and brie into each section. Fold. Pinch edges and crimp. Brush with beaten farm egg. Bake in preheated 400 oven for 10 minutes or therebouts.

  13. Geez Gollum, I'm not a 'breakfast person' but after reading this post, now I feel hungry. Maybe I should just turn my thoughts to joining in on PINK SATURDAY, and the thought of food will go away. We ate enough food on Christmas to last a couple months.:)

Please give Mister a hug for me, what a little 'ham' he is. I wish my Sergei wouldn't run as soon as I pick up the camera. :(

    Have a good day.

    Ciao

  19. Welcome to your first Pink Saturday. I am so glad you decided to join us. I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season.

Your post is a feast for the eyes. Your home is just lovely, and I love the Limoges lidded dish.

The only problem is that you have made me even more hungry than I already was. Are you able to push some of those scrumptious dishes through the screen for me?

I do believe Mister can have anything his heart desires. He must be a very good boy.

  35. If you want them their yours. I decided that 2009 will be the year I give away, the things I don't use. I'm already getting together some other Pfaltzgraff pieces for Artie. I actually have three more glasses, I like to buy extra in case something gets broken. Since we moved, we just don't have the need for as much as we once did. Our oldest son wouldn't use them, our daughter has enough that we bought for her and our youngest son, isn't married doesn't need them. We have eight granddaughters, but most of them are all to young to keep stuff around that long. And I learned my lesson earlier this year when I bought dishes and flatware for one of our older granddaughters who was going to move into an apartment of her own. She didn't now I have these big boxes taking up room in my pantry. :(

    Just let me know.....

    Hugs

Hope you stay on board with Pink Sat!!! Happy New Year! Dana

  37. Gollum, your husband sounds like my father used to about his soup spoon. He loved soup (gumbo, oyster stew, split pea, black bean, vegetable beef, turtle soup, you name it), but he didn't like the soup spoons that came with any of the services from his family or Mama's. So he found himself a spoon in an antique shop, and he loved that spoon! It's from an old, probably discontinued Tiffany pattern called Colonial, and he got the gumbo spoon in that. It has a round bowl and is very substantial, and it fit his hand perfectly. We were not allowed to touch his spoon!I still laugh thinking about it as it took him ages to find just the right one. All of us girls always stole his razor, his car, his books, his horse, and everything else he owned, but you risked your life if you touched his spoon (or his hunting clothes)! ;-)

    XO,

    Sheila

And I just happen to alreaday have 2 (count them) 2 boxes of chicken stock!! lol We have had almost 2 straight weeks of cloudy drizzle except for a sunny Christmas. Soup will hit the spot. Happy New Year...Debbie

  42. Their yours !!!!!!!!! It will take me a while to get them packed, with the holidays here, company coming and my DH after me to take my china etc. out of the cabinets in the dining room, so he can lay the hardwood floors, it's a bit busy around here. I'll ask where I should ship them when I have the package ready. I'm glad they're going to a good home. :) Hope you enjoy them.

It's still early enough in California to throw a pot of split pea soup together with what's left of the Christmas ham, and it's chilly enough to enjoy it, too. Thanks for sharing ... 56. Hello Gollum, I'm still making my pink saturday visits. Thank you so much for stopping by. Love your post and your soup and puff pasteie look yummy. I am in love with Mister. I have wanted a Yorkie for years but my Newf is just too darn big and might hurt a Yorkie while she played with it. My pet sitter said "no Yorkie for you, Molly would be too ruff" I know she's right so I will wait.
Your blog is great and your camera takes beautiful pictures!
    Have a Happy New Year.
