Cupcakes & Kitchen Kerfuffles

"The only thing that I have ever successfully made in the kitchen is a mess. And several little fires."
--Carrie Bradshaw, "Sex & the City"

We're 19 days into 2009, and already I've suffered two kitchen kerfuffles, so a third can't be far behind. First, an overflowing pear tart scorched the bottom of my oven, then Young Bandwith accidentally sent the cook-top into a coma (midnight fire, lots of water, and shorted wires); but the only way to handle kitchen fires is to jump right back into the kitchen and bake. So I'm soothing myself with homemade cupcakes.

I found the liners, dragees, and cupcake wrappers at Amazon.com

This is my goal...

However, if my Dog-pigs are any indicator, then I'll be totally flummoxed by the paper "dresses" for the cupcakes. More likely, I will scarf down the whole lot and thoroughly derail my diet. But that's the great thing about food--you can make an ugly cupcake, or dog pig, and it's still tasty.

Well, sometimes.

Tomorrow, the baking begins.

  1. I'm sorry about your kitchen dilemmas. The cupcakes look beautiful and elegant. Can a cupcake be elegant??? I don't think you should go to far from the stove while your baking them, unless you set two egg timers HA

  3. Good Morning Gollum,

You sure do make it hard, for those of us who are trying to diet, when you keep tempting us with such great looking foods. :( Having said that, I will be baking today also, Oatmeal Cookies for my DH and Date & Nut Bread for a friend,(who asked for it). It's a good day for baking here, snow has covered the ground and I don't drive when there is snow, even on the sides of the roads (cluck, cluck). Have a good day.

    Hugs

  17. I say the third time will be the charm! :)

Isn't it funny how the 'ugliest' baked good is usually the tastiest? I love those cut out paper holders the cupcakes are in! Wouldn't it be fun to make those out of some sort of edible sugar... hrm...

I can't wait to see the cupcakes! In the noble cause of helping you stay on your diet, I'll come eat them for you and give you a report. hee.

  18. Oh yummm, cupcakes - and beautiful ones at that! Your cake stand is gorgeous! I bought a very similar one at Marshall's last week, then found a cloche at Pier 1. Mine has a figurine on it instead of cupcakes, which is much better for my waistline! ♥

  27. And sometimes we just need a sweet treat this time of year. My treat of the day is brownies that I whipped up last night from scratch. It pays to keep cocoa on hand.

Those are some beautiful cupcakes, as is that plate stand!
