Introducing "Foodie Friday"

You are cordially invited to participate in a weekly potluck party, "Foodie Friday," every Friday at Designs by Gollum.

A few Guidelines:
Q: What IS "Foodie Friday," exactly?
A: Think "Pink Saturday," "Outdoor Wednesday," or "Tablescape Thursday"...but with food. It is a virtual "cookbook," showcasing some of the best food by bloggers.

Q: What type of food should I bring to the potluck?
A: Appetizers, entrees, soups, salads, bread, desserts, and everything in between. You can blog about a single cupcake, store-bought food, a restaurant, a cup of tea, kitchen gadgets, foodie memoirs, cookbooks... or a whole meal. It's not about quantity..it's about having fun in the kitchen.

Sometimes, though, we will be doing "themes," and I will announce them in plenty of time, such as "Foodie Friday Trainwrecks." Themes will be optional. If you'd rather not participate in a themed potluck, no problem--post whatever tickles your food fancy.

Q: Must my food be homemade?
A: No. Product and restaurant reviews are welcome. You can "gild" food from the bakery or supermarket.

Q: Can I use pictures of food that I've posted previously on my blog or that I've linked to other food blogs?
A: Absolutely.(I hope you do-I've seen foodie awesomeness & more on your blogs.)You can post multiple foodie posts. You will need to enter the permalink (see below) to Mr. Linky for each one.

Q: How do I participate?
A: 1. Create your blog post. Add the "Foodie Friday" (white cupcake) logo (you'll find it in this post and also on the sidebar) to your post with a link back to the host blog, Designs by Gollum. Add the Foodie Friday link for that particular week so other bloggers can find other recipes, receive more visits/comments, and discover neat blogs. Here's the link to the host blog, http://www.designsbygollum.blogspot.com/.
And here's the badge:

2. After your post is published, click on the title. Your permalink will appear in at the top of your computer screen. Copy-and-paste your blog entry (the permalink). Go to Designs by Gollum and add your permalink, name/blog's name, and the title of your recipe in the space provided by Mr. Linky.

3. Start your foodie tour--you'll need a notebook to jot down recipes and be sure to leave a comment for your fellow Foodie Friday participants.

4. I started a photo gallery at Flickr to keep track of all the wonderful Foodie Friday recipes. Please add a photo of your recipe along with the permalink to your blog. You can visit the gallery HERE. The gallery will be a great way to showcase your blog and to meet other foodies.

5. Have fun! You might want to bring a snack with you, because Foodie Friday recipes will make you very hungry!

Whether you are a beginning cook or a seasoned chef, you will be embraced by Foodie Friday's big-hearted community. Kitchens are imperfect places, but Foodie Friday is not about the end result--it's about the journey and having fun.

Fun is when you start out making ladybug bread, and it turns into
Dogpigs...

Fun is when your mama says your soup is ewwwwwy, but eats it anyway.
Somehow (more than decorating), memories, and friendships, are made in the kitchen...maybe because it is one of Man's Basic needs? Here lately, it sure is one of mine. :-)

See you this Friday at the Potluck! If you have questions, email me. I have a full time writing job and sometimes my email gets away from me. If you'll put an ALL CAPS note in the header of your email (URGENT Foodie Friday Question or 2nd Request, etc) I'll know you need an immediate response.

Gollum, I saw this link on Diane's blog, and as long as I can continue in my mode of being the auto-chef, I'm good to go! I will post your link on my sidebar. I admit to being kinda intimidated, though. My photos of food can at times be a bit, well... scary. ;-)

XO,

Sheila :-)

I'm so glad you all will be cooking with me this Friday.
I'll serve virtual margaritas, or something wicked, and we'll have a food-fest blast. :-)

If I only had time to blog!!!!! This sounds wonderful and I can't wait to find new recipes and ideas for cooking! Once that youngest one of mine goes off to college I might actually do a blog. In the meantime, I sure do enjoy blogland as an observer!

Oh the pressure! Tablescaping I can handle...now I actually have to put food on the plates?!? Can it be faux food?!? LOL...
Seriously, it sounds like fun and I'm game (how much did my hubby pay you to organize this?)! Decorating and doll making are my passions, cooking ,not so much... A funny story about that, my poor husband came home one night, walked in the kitchen and noticed that the oven was on and he could see that there was a cookie sheet in there. He rubbed his hands together with excitement (because I never bake)and said, "Oh good, you're making cookies!". I said,"nope, I'm just cooking heads!" ( my father christmas's). So, needless to say, he will be very excited to hear that I might be motivated to use that big square thing in the kitchen with the circles on top that get hot!

Sounds like fun! I'll give it a go.

We're at the lake, as of about an hour ago. Believe it or not, I do more cooking here in this tiny kitchen, than I do at home.

Okay Michael, for somebody who was going to diet, you've sure had food on your mind a lot lately! That's all I can think about when I'm on a diet! My food is not usually as pretty as yours, but I do want to try to participate! I'm sure going to live vicariously through everybody else's food photos though. Great idea! laurie

Hi Gollum! So if I find a really amazing little restaurant with fabulous food, it's OK to use it?? Because the chances of seeing my cooking on a post are slim to none!! lol Have a good week!!...Debbie

Sounds like fun :-) I usually eat pizza on Fridays, but have been doing "Flashback Friday" and digging up food and flowers from my past for that day's post. So I think I can pull this off without too much extra effort. Thanks for the open invite! It's much appreciated and very hospitable.

Just found this, so I missed the first one. Does there have to be a picture to go along with it, or can it be a memory or recipe or something else written?

Gollum said...

PDX, no rules for FF. A food memory would be GREAT.

Great looking soup for potluck. Thanks, Doylene

Sewconsult said...

Since there is a lack of a decent camera at the moment, I don't participate in the FF, but I add oo's & oh's (with salivating drools occasionally) while reading. I love your site. I have gotten several wonderful recipes from my reading.

I have a special love for copper kitchen items. I own my great aunt's large copper bowl used for candy making at the Martha Washington Candy company (Indiana). From the 1940's or 50's. It's a treasure.

Thank you so much, Michael Long

31 years ago, we lived on Chase Naval Base in Beeville, Texas. My 7 year old son asked if he could go skating, so I gave him $5. Instead went to the base bakery and got me a birthday cake. The lady told him she had one cake for $5 because half of it wasn't cooked right. He kept tasting both sides, trying to find the which side wasn't cooked all the way! God bless her!
