Valentine's Day: Pink Saturday (with a touch of red)

I've missed the last few Pink Saturdays, but I wouldn't have missed this one for anything.

How delightful that Valentine's Day falls on Pink Saturday.

Dr. Gollum and I had our first date on Valentine's Day, 1978. No matter what we're doing, we make time to celebrate.

I decided to add some whimsy this Valentine's, beginning with a bowl of hearts...

...and chocolates on a red plate...

The tablescape...

I made a chocolate cake with fluffy white icing and Wilton candy sprinkles. (I would have posted pictures earlier, but I had a major mishap with a pastry bag...icing all over the place...I had to perform major cosmetic surgery on the cake, mainly with sprinkles.)

Here you go, Dr. Gollum.

Please visit Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for more delightful Pinkness.

Before you go, please have a chocolate.

*****HAPPY LOVERS' DAY, Michael & Dr. G!!! (And to MISTER from BELLE, too!) That's SOOO romantic about your first date!!! Was it lust at first sight? (OOPS! Of course I MEANT "love" ...insert slyyyyy grin here!...). It's alll SOOOOOOO DELIGHTFUL at your PRETTTY TABLE!!!****** I have a thought for you~ (Now wipe that FEAR off your face, girlfriend!) ~ MAYBE you could write a TABLESETTING book of your own like Kimberly did (!) ~ and THENNNNNN you can buy allllll the dishes n' accessories n' pretties at either, maybe, a "discount" (?) OR you could "write them off" as "RESEARCH/ SUBJECT MATTER" or something???? A-N-D, if you have to BUILD/ADD another room to house it all, maybe you could even deduct THAT expense too! (Hey! And I'm not even an ACCOUNTANT! Awww heck, am about the FARTHEST thing FROM one, "don'tchaknow"!?! I "spend" to "make pretty" for my precious DH ~ and it's DH's job "to provide" so I can DO "my job", right? Well, that's the "excuse" I use if I need one, anyway!). Once again, JUST A FAAAABULOUS "table", mon Valentine friend/ amigo/ freunde! ENJOY your day!!!

  9. Linda, the wallpaper is Thibault
(www.thibautdesign.com); it's in the "Spring Lake" collection (big blue butterfly on the cover).
This wallpaper is in my laundry room.

Jain, I was dying to reword the hearts but couldn't find anyone to lick off the existing writing..and I wasn't gonna. Not after I ate all of the macadamia cookies in ONE SITTING after ignoring them for 3 days.

Susan, you are so sweet...but I have to diet. Dr. G says my cholesterol is sky high. If I don't get control of my upward trend, I will be on Lipitor and soon be ironing my pants in the driveway. Seriously. The poor guy bought me a Pajamagram for V's and when he asked it it fit all right (well, I couldn't breathe, I was gasping for air, a size S might've fit Mister), but I said Yes!!! Size S was the PERFECT choice, darlin. The best V gift ever, after 30++ years together.
    :-)

    Happy Valentine's to all!

  14. Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Pink Saturday! Such a perfect tablescape and beautiful cake for Valentines Day! ♥

I had extra batter from my mini bundt cakes and put it in a heart pan. Well, it's a very thin heart cake. I cut the rounded tops off the mini bundts, heated some jam & grape juice & spread lightly over the cake, put the "muffin tops" all over the cake, then covered with frosting. It turned out very well. Amazing what I was able to cover with frosting! I took pictures of the mini bumdts but not the heart for PS. ♥

  41. Ms.Gollum, I met my Beloved on V'Day in 1981., and it's always been special for us too! ;) Your chocolate cake reminds (looks like) of one I use to make that was very low fat. 1 choc cake mix, 1 can cherry pie filling, eggs that are called for on box., and then mix with beaters till thoroughly mixed. Bake at temperature for minutes on box, and the cake is SOOOO moist. I use the Lite Cherry Pie Filling., and you could use egg whites versus whole eggs. I then take a 16oz thawed lite cool whip, add a box of sugar free/fat free vanilla instant pudding, mix till it is like a vanilla mousse., and frost cooled cake. Refrigerate...and it is the best cake that I always get tons of compliments on because it tastes like a scratch cake. ;) And, it's extremely lowfat. Love your blog! I am always inspired by you! ;) ~CC Catherine from "Catherine de th`e Cups"

  42. If you had not told us, I would have thought the sprinkles on the cake were there because they make that cake look so festive! How sweet that you had your first date on V's Day -- that is starting it out right. Love your Valentines place setting. I will take a choclate (but only to keep you from having to resist eating it). I'm just so considerate. laurie
