Gollum and Mama Set the Table

My mother is visiting, and we spent Mother's Day Eve working on the tablescape. The Ironstone is "Singapore Bird," a popular pattern in the late 70s.

Going with the bird theme, we set four placesettings with twig flatware, two with my grandmother's "Wild Rose." The goblets don't match--literally, the end settings have different glassware, if you'll look closely. Mother always says a table is more interesting when things DON'T match.

Mother knows best!

Mom is 81 and still sets a beautiful table. She considers it a "grace note."

Singapore Bird by Adams

Echo Point from Big Lots

We used aqua plates from Big Lots as chargers. They worked great!

A cute, intricate butter knife.

Dr. Gollum just returned from a mysterious Mother's Day gift-buying trip, so stay tuned for the outcome. The mystery gifts are sitting in the back of his truck in BIG boxes.

Happy Mother's Day,

Bloggers.

  23. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY GOLLUM and MOM also, I'm wishing you both a wonderful day.

Dear Gollum, you are so blessed to be able to share the day with your Mother, may GOD BLESS you both.

If you make the Biscotti and German Pound Cake, you'll see how easy it is to make. I've tried many different Biscotti recipes over the years and I like this one the best, and IT IS EASY. Just remember the dough is sticky, so don't think something is wrong.

    Have a great day !!!!!

  42. Happy Mother's Day, Gollum and Mother Gollum!

Your mama is SO right. It is a lot more interesting when things don't match. I love to do that because it gives me a chance to use the things I've inherited from family, been given as gifts, and have bought for my own and Mr. Magpie's enjoyment!

Beautiful table as always. Love how pretty it looks.

I hope you and your sweet mama have a glorious Mother's Day! Can't wait to see what loot awaits in those boxes!

  44. Mother knows best!

I fell in love with the Singapore Bird pattern years ago -- an English friend had everything known to man made in that pattern! (Dish Envy, you know)

I now own ONE dinner plate. It is in one of my cabinets of stuff I just look at.

I might decide to serve myself something on it one day, when it's just me.

Your table is just lovely as always...it was quiet here today, husband gone, daughter had to work, had a quiet lunch with my son, and spend the rest of the afternoon doing nothing...just petting my pups. My mom is at her sisters, she is not feeling well so it was an uneventful day....looking forward to seeing the gifts!

I might have those same Echo Point aqua plates from Big Lots, but I called them robin's egg blue. My sons got them for me for Mother's Day! I did a tablescape with them for Tablescape Thursday. I used them with the Echo Point placemats. Big Lots had all their Echo Point collection marked down by 70%! I sure do love a sale.

I know you had a wonderful day with her! I love to hear about the mystery boxes! These days, I love to go out in the yard, I think I am putting up a 6 foot tall fence, I live on a main highway in the country and everyone slows down, when they come by my house. I want to go out and just pull weeds and tend to my flowers. Without the whole community saying I saw you in the yard, the pasture, on the porch, ect. lol I am so relaxed when tending to my flowers. I not sure if you got my comment telling you, I bought six Gulf Coast sheep,I have been so excited. Sorry I did not do a train wreck, also, when I went to linky I linked my site instead of my page! So sorry, I was coping the wrong URL without knowing it
