Pull up a chair and join us in the yard for an early supper.Anyone want a blueberry scone?
We're on a huge fruit kick. Dr. G is always telling his patients to eat more fruit!
No dressing on the salad except for lemon juice and a hint of extra virgin olive oil.
A closer look at the tablecloth. In the 1940s and 1950s, tablecloths were the best ever. Whoever made them got it right--cheerful patterns and colors.
The beehive is actually a plate cover--practical for outdoor meals in the "wilds" of gollumland.
Outdoor Wednesday wouldn't be complete without a photo of our donkeys: Zeus, Hera, Apollo, Homer, and Juno.

What a wonderful outdoor light supper! Salad, bread, fruit and wine are some of my very favorite things. This reminds me I've got some cherries downstairs in the fridge that are calling my name. As always, beautiful tablescape too!

ReplyDeleteRefreshingly light, and beautifully presented in the most perfect of settings. You must follow Doctor's orders and it so easy to do with yummy cherries and sweet watermelon. ~ Robyn
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and inviting.
ReplyDeleteLooks just lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, how I love this. Let me count the ways. I love, love red. And that era of vintage table cloths. And the menu is fantastic. Light and healthy. The outdoors is my spot. The Adirondack chairs are just what I'm looking for. Polka dots are my personal favorite. And let's see..."mine" is Dr. K! (He deals more with "fruity" than fruit. As in working at a state mental hospital. Dare I say that? Well, I did.) You go straight to my blog roll for this one!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Such a nice light meal. I LOVE the first photo, the one with the sun beams! Love the red too!

I hope Dr. G appreciates all you do. I sure do!!!:):) Hugs, Pinky
ReplyDeleteLove the tablecloth as it reminds me of my childhood. Both my parents and my grandparents had those cloths on the table for every meal. And every week, there were a stack of them to be starched and ironed. The view is just as pretty as the tablecloth.
ReplyDeleteSally
What a nice way to enjoy dinner :) I love that tablecloth too! So cute!
ReplyDeleteAll the best,

Looks healthy and refreshing and of course wine is made from grapes so basically is a fruit as well. Have a couple of servings.

I could live on your "simple menu" for a long long time!
ReplyDeleteHow refreshing! Love the vintage table cloth! But I'd have to have ranch on that salad. ;)
ReplyDeleteGo to my cooking blog-- I have a bloggy award to give to you.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteWonderful post. It brings to mind the lazy days of summer. I agree they did know how to make those tablecloths fresh and cheery, it reminds me of my grandma. Her aprons had that look too.

I was going to write your contribution to Outdoor Wednesday was like a tone poem - which it is - but then I read the names of your donkeys and started laughing in a most un-lady like fashion. I love to come here where all is a reminder of the good and gentle life. Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteLove your Outdoor post...Just beautiful and look delicious! Great photos...Happy Outfoor Wednesday.katherinellen
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a dinner like that but we will have no such luck! It is freezing here...you would think that it was still winter. Only we have rain instead of snow. We have been informed by the weather people that it might snow this week though :-(
ReplyDeleteLovely! THanks so much for sharing and happy Outdoor Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteThis is such an inviting scene. I love eating outside in the Spring or just enjoying Happy Hour outdoors.
ReplyDeleteOften when we visit wineries, we'll take a light picnic and some have outdoor seating, sometimes a little entertainment, lovely.
Thanks for sharing. The Scones look deliscous
Mama Bear
I love the vintage tablecloth. I have a couple, too. I'll have to get them out and share for TT. I have been on a scones kick lately. I've made raisin, cranberry & pecan and orange. I'll have to try the blueberry.
ReplyDeleteDonkeys, you have donkeys? How cool is that?
What a lovely outdoor. I like the designed. Really great.
ReplyDeleteHappy outdoor Wednesday Gollum, This just says summer to me, I love the way you have combined the checks, polka dots and florals, so fresh and inviting, I just saw on another blog a guy in Belgium who hand makes bee hives, beautiful. Your views are incredible, enjoy your wonderful supper, hugs, Kathy
ReplyDeleteYour outdoor looks so comforting to me...I can see me with a good book enjoy the beauty of the day. So how do you manage to eat outdoors without being bugged out by mosquitoes or flies...ugh.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the white and red! It's so crisp and beautiful, M! And I love that beehive cover!

I swear...(not really) if I keep blogging much longer I am not going to be able to fit into this chair...THE FOOD! It's bad enough in my family...but...oh heck with it. I'm on my way over!!
ReplyDeleteSimply lovely!
ReplyDeleteThis is all so gorgeous! It looks like a magazine shoot!! BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photography, beautiful styling. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVintage tablecloths certainly was an excellent choice to serve that wonderful meal. I like how you presented things to eat on a three tier tray.
ReplyDeleteJoyce M
Wonderful post..it all looks and I bet tastes, wonderful in your great outdoors!
ReplyDeleteI love this great post and the pictures of a wonderful outdoors picnic so fun and reminds me of stuff in the past
ReplyDeleteMichael,
ReplyDeleteYou have created a lovely and beautiful setting to enjoy a graceful meal. I am arriving a tad (hopefully) fashionably late to view Outdoor Wednesday. Your beehive cover is clever so unexpected and quaint!
Cathy
As always, very pretty. I, too, collect vintage tablecloths. I saw the woven beehive covers at Big Lots last year, but didn't get one as I wasn't quite sure what to do with it. Now I regret that decision. Guess I will continue to use my red wire bowl/plate cover to keep the flies away.
