My husband brought home a sugar free cake.

It was almost too pretty to eat.

Of course, I had to play with it a little--not cat and mouse, but food and foodie.
The icing seemed architectural, like something you'd see on a building in Paris.

Or lace on a wedding dress.

Not to leave out the scientific world, here is an
Eclipse of Cake
Drapery Trim CakeOkay, you knew I couldn't resist, right?

Mr. Linky awaits your entry.
Have fun visiting bloggers and sampling their Foodie Friday offerings:

g'day

happy foodie friday
Sarah
Gollum, it must be cake night with the Foodies! I loved this cake... did it come from our favorite Publix by chance??? Loved your comparison of the icing to lingerie and lace. After reading your blog on Foodie Fridays, I have become fascinated in the way food looks. And contrary to an opinion I've heard off and on over the years, I don't think it's difficult to make food look appetizing. You prove it in every post as do a lot of the other Foodies.
Hope things are better with your mother. Please remember us to her. Thanks so much for hosting us...
Happy FF!
XO,
Sheila :-)
Was it tasty? I find sugar free can be dry. It was beautiful though!
I sure will, Sheila. And welcome, Sarah.
I am still getting teleported away from my blog to imeetzu. I don't know why this is happening, and I have reported it to Blogger. I am trying to remove things I've added to the layout. Hope Blogger fixes it soon. I don't think I'm the only one getting this. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Bobbie--yes, it's dry. I do love the icing...and Diet Coke helps. :-)
Oh Yum! It's very beautiful and guiltfree eating.. can't get any better than that! Well wishes to your Mother.
Have a great weekend!
Hugs,
Debbie
Gollum, How creative you are!! Thanks for hosting again!
Now this has made me want a piece of cake!!! The kind with all the sugar of course! I may have to bake one (or maybe buy one) Tomorrow! And I'll have mine with some Crystal Light : )) Beautiful photos!!
Shirley
Hmmm... Publix bakery again, right? Looks great, but how did sugar-free taste?
Gollum--That's why you are the writer-I see cake; you see lingerie and architecture :) Hope your mom is feeling better. Thanks for hosting.
That looks absolutely yummy!
Wow that looks soooooooo good:) Enjoy.....
The cake is gorgeous..I'm hungry now!
Jane F posted a Foodie Friday link over on AtticMag. :)
I'll have to say, my favorite sugar-free cake is angel food. This cake looks delicious, especially the icing. Who can resist icing?
Christi
Wow! What luck to have Dr. Gollum bring home a cake that's not only beautiful but sugar free! Ah, I need to cut down on sweets myself, per my doctor, but it's so hard to do.
Hope your mama is doing well and that you have a great weekend!
Gollum, I meant to tell you... that happened to me several times on your blog. I go out and come back on to fix the problem. This time it hasn't happend. Yea! :-)
After all of the fun photography - how did it taste? I had to chuckle at the eclipse of cake.....~ Robyn

Gollum...Some great texture shots of a piece of cake!!! Your right , It's all about how you view the object. xoxo~Kathy~@ Sweet Up-North Mornings...
Hey Gollum, that looks scrumptious! Thanks for sharing. I did pie at my place. We are having a drawing for a great prize, hope you will come check it out and enter! Thanks for another great FF!
What a great looking cake. Your photographs are fabulous. I sure wish I could sneak a bite!
Loved your descriptions of the cake...... :)
So you like Coke Zero, do you? I'm beginning to really like it myself.....I've always been a Pepsi drinker but have decided to try to cut down. I can't stand any of the diet sodas....except now Coke Zero is winning my heart!
So delicious. Love the artistic touches..., it's all about the icing on the cake, right! Thanks for this party!
Hi Gollum,
This is my first time on Foodie Friday but I have enjoyed it for some time. I have only grown to appreciate cake in my older years and I love it. Your cake looks delicious but even more delicious are your lovely pictures. Your eye is devine.
Thanks for letting me play.
Maryrose
Its a beautiful cake, thats for sure... And awesom photos, but sugar free? How did it taste?
Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi, it took me over an hour to create a link to your blog this morning as every time I visited you my computer would crash. I have had the same problem of late with my blog and have deleted several of my gadgets and moved my followers to the bottom of the page. Touch wood, this seems to have fixed the problem, for the moment. Due to the problem getting access to your blog I am also unable to scroll through to look at your edible art but if the first photo is anything to go by it is 'artful' indeed :)
That cake is too pretty to be good for you!
I love cake of any kind so sugar free is great by me. Your photos make the cake look so yummy.
Happy Foodie Friday. You have me a big grin to start my morning with your icing interpretations. I really can see each one.
I'm glad your mother is better. My mom is slowly healing from her fall, too. Today is her birthday, and I am so grateful to have her.
Yummy, and its breakfast time here!
Didn't your momma tell you not to play with your food?
Glad you didn't listen! That was such fun, I love the eclipse the best.
That's it! I'm moving to TN just so I can live near your Publix! Soooooooooo not fair!
Justine :o )
I have to laugh at the Coke Zero in the background next to the cake:) I really have fun participating every week since I like to play with FLOUR:)
Joyce
I could just lick the computer screen. That cake looks so good!!!!
Love all the ways of looking at a piece of cake. You're so creative and clever. Thanks, once again, for hosting this lovely event. I always look forward to it.
Your photos are wonderful... this is just toooooooo "yummy" looking. I believe I'll do some baking this evening... hope all is well with your mother..and your deadline.hugs ~lynne~
Food can be works of art, I do love the foodie posts! When the photos are this good you are there picking up the fork, sampling a bite...
I'm soooooooo drooling! Yum! I have never had a sugar free cake before...does that mean they used splenda or something instead? I know that sounds a little dumb to ask...but I'm not a baker in any way!
Oh how I adore those forks!...Very unique! Hope you have a fantastic weekend! Smiles :0)!
Gorgeous as always. But I am trying to lose a couple pounds! I hope you'll swing by my recipe exchange too. I shared a yummy baked flounder recipe and love collecting other inspired ideas:

Oh brilliant!
Love the shots... the lingerie especially, although I think she needs an underwire. . . .
Eclipse shot -- very moody and romantic looking. Can a cake be romantic? Hey, why not?
Lovely post and thanks for Foodie Friday!
Cass
I noticed that someone said that sugar-free cakes can be dry - mine aren't. It depends on how it's made. I use lots of different sugar alternatives - agave, unsweetened fruit concentrate, and raisin-soaked buttermilk to name a few.
I would love to know how Publix got that icing to pipe so crisply without sugar!! It is beautiful.
I don't know what is going on with blogger but on my sidebar it is still showing your wed. post but your foodie friday is coming up. I posted yesterday my foodie friday and it is not showing, but i posted a link to my facebook and it is coming up fine on there. It is crazy. I sure hope it starts coming op on here...Crazy
Lilsista, I will ask about the Splenda. Amy, I'm curious about the icing, too--it sure didn't have an aftertaste. I gained 6 pounds overnight. But I ate a lot of cake. LOL
I will have to pay more attention to my next piece of decorated cake. I love your different perspectives. BTW, it looks delicious!
Oh wasnt' that sweet of your hubby to bring home a dessert! Sugarfree is great in somethings but I've never been able to capture the right taste with cakes, but then I'm no baker. Have a fun Tennessee weekend.
Happy Twirls
That looks so scrumptious! What flavor was it and did it taste good for being sugar free?
once again you are making me hungry! Hope all is well with you and yours! xoxox
I will never look at a cake in the same way again?
How did it taste??
It was a little dry...but the icing more than enough made up for it. :-) I've found these cakes at Publix and Kroger (in the freezer, usually).
Hey Gollum, it is me again. I just had to pass something along to you. My parents and two of my Aunts visited you for the first time this week (even though I have been doing your FF for quite sometime now). I wanted to tell you that they have yet to stop talking about how beautiful your pictures and delicious your food looked. You are truly talented! Have a great weekend!!!
Thanks for hosting, am really enjoying getting around and reading everyone's posts, so many yummy temptations.
Plain old Piece of Cake love that photo best! MB
Yellow cake with cream frosting is my utmost favorite!
Beautiful pictures =-)
Lilly
You are the only person I know who can see and find architecture and jewelry in a piece of CAKE! You are too much! Now I am hungry too!!!! But I am also off to see the others great posts! Hope you are having a GREAT weekend! Hugs, Pinky
Absolutely luscious!
I am starting a NEW Mr. Linky party. It will begin on Aug 10th so everyone will have a week and a half to think about their first post. I have a poll up for votes on which button should be the new button. The "party" is called The Knock Off Knock Out-where THRIFTY meets creative sensation. Go over and learn more about the new weekly event and I would appreciate if you would cast your vote and HELP pick the new button design and its the last week for the July GIVE-A-Way, if you would like to be a part of that event..
