Outdoor Wednesday: Poolside at Gollum's

We're working on a faux creek bed. It extends from the waterfall and winds around the pond.
A few shots around the pool...

This is our 2nd umbrella. The wind sweeps relentlessly over the hill, sometimes hard enough to rip off the gutters, so an umbrella doesn't stand a chance. It ended up in the pool. Next day we found it in the pond--hopelessly broken. So I ain't taking chances with the new umbrella.
It stays tightly buttoned unless we're right there.

I will see you all on Foodie Friday. Mr. Linky should be up by 8 pm Thursday.

  4. That looks lovely!
I know what you mean about umbrellas and wind. Ours blew over and the glass table broke...I never saw so much glass...I was cleaning it out of the grass for days!
    Glad mom is doing well!

  5. I'm so glad to hear your mother is home and doing well. Your pool and landscaping is beautiful. I sure know what you mean about the wind and umbrellas. However, the last storm we had the umbrella was tied down and it still went over and is a done deal.. will have to start looking for a new one. I enjoyed your pictures of your beautiful pool.. hugs ~lynne~

  10. Gollum, I loved seeing what you are doing with your dry creek bed around the pool area, and your pool is so lovely. I don't blame you a bit for keeping the umbrella down. During certain times of the year, we bring all of our porch furniture in because of weather. Earlier this summer, we had three weeks of "weather," and I found my heavy porch rocker upside down and near the railing. I thought Mr. Magpie had done it, but he blamed it on the wind. It must have been some gust!

I hope that your mother is doing much better. I've been thinking about her and pray for a speedy recovery. We've all grown fond of her from your posts. Please tell her I send my best and hope she feels much better soon.

    Happy OW...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  12. I'm so happy to hear your mom is doing well!

Great job on the dry creek bed & your pool is gorgeous! We lost our PRETTY umbrella last year & bought a not as pretty replacement, but we're leery of putting it up... Those sneaky gale force winds can be such a deterrent! ☺ Diane

  13. Beautiful poolside pics, and I know what you mean about open patio umbrellas. I lost one last year, too from the wind and rain.

    See you Friday!

  14. I'm glad that your mom is home and doing well.

Your pool area looks very inviting. I love the outdoor fireplace. We've always said if we ever redo our back porch and yard, we'd like to get one of those put in. Nice pop of color with the flowers.

  15. Beautiful!!! Depiction of loveliness at its best if you want my opinion.

My Outdoor Wednesday is flowers with a 'passion'. Come over if you can find time. I'd love your company today.

And, hope the day treats you well!!!

  16. Just beautiful! It's so nice to see some water. Unfortunately all of our creek beds (and lakes, and rivers) are starting to look faux right now, this drought is unbelievable. So nice to see green in your lawn. And flowers that are still blooming! What a lovely place to spend a lazy afternoon. Kathy

Beautiful relaxing area you have there around your pool... Thanks for the beautiful pictures of it... Glad to hear your mom is doing better.

  30. I love zinnias, they are always so hardy and gorgeous. We live close to the coast of Texas and our umbrellas never make it past a year, we have given up on them and are in the process of building a pergola instead. Love your pictures : )

  33. We had an umbrella to go the same way one time from a wind storm, so after when we bought the new one, we started tying it closed tight with a robe when a storm was predicted. Beautiful pool, it's still 90 degrees here at 6:40pm and a dip in your pool would feel great.

  41. I can just imagine that an umbrella wouldn't survive out there in the open like that. We've lost a couple of them to wind, and we have houses all around us. What a beautiful view. I could really relax here! laurie
