Metamorphosis Monday: A Bedroom for All Seasons

This is the "in progress" winter look for the Master Bedroom, which should be finished when it's a sweltering 100 degrees outside. The fabrics were bought from different bedding ensembles during Horchow sales.

I'm trying to decide what to do with the little white chest--a future Metamorphosis Monday project.
The drapery rods came from Big Lots--$6 and $8 each
This is the summer look, which was finished in mid-fall. I'm a turtle! Mister, the Decorating Yorkie, added his contribution: a lime green squeak toy. :-)
The dog has STYLE! I know everyone will want to hire him. He prefers to be paid via Pawpal.
I loved the calm, soothing look. The basic pieces were left alone and I changed the bedding, draperies, pillows, and the rug.
The warm, red art came down and was replaced with cooler, summery paintings (borrowed from the guest room).
The transformation took a few hours. I couldn't have done it without my own personal village--Bandwidth and Dr. G. They helped move the rugs and rehang the (high, out-of-reach) art.

Summer .............................Winter
One room. Two looks. Two moods. Which one do you like best?

  5. Michael, both rooms are beautiful, but I have to tell you when I saw the drapes and all the red I said, "oh my gosh!" Yep....gorgeous in my book... this looks like it came right out of a magazine.. I have to look those drapes up for our living area.. I could use those for summer instead of the brown ones I now have hanging...love,love, love it....fantastic makeover... thanks to the team of assistants and naturally Mister for all their help. hugs ~lynne~

  6. Oooooohhhhh, I LOVE them both, but since I'm always drawn to reds, that one wins by a hair!

Mister, the lime squeaky toy set the entire mood for the room! When are you available for my bedroom re-do?!? ☺

  7. Evening, Dear Gollum Michael Lee! Oh, I adore your pretty bedroom. I love both looks and am kinda leaning toward your wintry look. You have such pretty furnishings the I love those striped draperies. Oh, Chloe Dawn wanted to tell little Mister - she has the same toy but hers is pink! :)
Man, you've got fabulous decorating taste!! What can you not do, Dear One?
    Be a sweetie,

  8. Summer for sure for me. Both are lovely but I really prefer the summer look.
Always nice to get help. I'm 5' tall so I am always calling for a tall person in my house to get thing up or down for me.

  18. I love color and love red as you will notice if you look at my home. I love the summer look, too. The summer look, looks more like the new Swedish style that I have seen so much of especially on Cote de Texas and Velvet and Linen blogs.

  26. Holy cow woman, you do this every year twice? They're both so incredibly gorgeous, but there's something about the summer look that calls to me. That being said, I love red, so the winter look is perfect too. And I LOVE the windows in there!

  28. * Michael~ My Jim would say you have "high class problems!!! (And YES, I'd have to agree w/ him on this one!)~

Now, plz don't consider me "odd" (well, anymore than "USUAL", that is!!), but what is "screwey" with me that I see/feel that EITHER LOOK/FEEL/APPROACH works at ANY time of the year???

I'm CONSTANTLY "playing" w/ my new cream, vanilla, sand & touch o' grey master bedroom (& FINALLY~~~ The new, upholstered bed arrives in just a few more weeks~ am embarrassed to admit it that I can't STAND IT because I'm so excited! "God grant me patience but hurry!)by changing pillows & shams (for which I am a NUTCASE), maybe a throw and an accessory or two, and it's SOOOO much fun!!! I wake up daily almost excited about what I'll "do" w/ our bed that particular day, right down to the flowers! (I think maybe I neeed to "get a life"?!?!?!?!? Ha!)~

ANYHOOOOO, BOTH your looks are truly beautiful, w/ their "own" special looks~~~ I'd go with "what YOU'RE feeling" at the time!!!

    Miss you! Hugs to all~~~

  34. Michael, they are both absolutely lovely. Funny, but I did the same thing this year-went all white, cream, pale taupe, pale blue for summer and bronze, brown, deeper blues and greens for winter. I can't choose one. We have more than one season, don't we??

  35. Good evening ML! I have to say that I am definitly a COLOR person so my fav is the winter look. The red is so beautiful, and those drapes are gorgeous to me. I don't think I could do all white, it just isn't ME. I do however change accessories, pillows, even all the bedding for summer. Your "design assistants" are fabulous....especially MISTER! He knows JUST the right touches for your rooms....all of them! XO, Pinky

  36. Both rooms are gorgeous, but we have so much winter here in PA, I think the winter room would suit us better. You've been one busy lady...How do you manage to find the time to blog???

  41. OMGOSH! I love those "winter" drapes! Absolutely stunning! Both looks are gorgeous and how wonderful to be able to change the look for the season (even if you are a season behind!) Laughing about the "Pawpal"! laurie

  42. I like the rug & chair better in the summer, the artwork in both (esp. the rabbit paintings!), but since I use the plaid fabric, and have similar drapes in the winter/fall room, I guess I like elements from both. It's nice that you can switch. Oh, and I like that chest (for the Met. Monday) in the summer room. Looks really nice there. Maybe you should just move it elsewhere, depending on the season! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh can´t not decide--no no no! Both are very beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  44. LOL @ pawpal! clever!

I adore both looks. One speaks to the calm and fresh of warmer months, the other cozy and warmth during cold ones. I like to roll with the seasons.

    Cheers!

  47. They are both so calming, it's hard to choose. But I love color and the coral, gold and celedon are so cozy. There you go again with those Big Lot finds! Horchow and Big Lots...and it WORKS!

  48. Not an easy decision, Michael. I love lots of color, but there is something so ethereal and elegant about white. If I had to choose one or the other, it would be white.

  49. Oh my word, what a transformation. I really love them both. So pretty. Hugs, Marty

  50. Both bedroom "looks" are beautiful and chic but I am particularly fond of the winter palette. I use a lot of shades of red all over my house during the entire year. My most recent post shows some new red leather chairs but I am one who loves bold color all during the year. I also use that paint color throughout my home with the exception of my dining room and DH's office. It allows me to be bolder with color.

  51. You always amaze and inspire me! Both rooms are lovely and inviting. I use jewel tones so the red is especially appealing to me at the moment.

I am getting ready to reupholster the bedroom chairs...cool, still undetermined...after seeing your pictures...neutral is a good idea!

  52. Well, I'd like to go delete my budget bedroom I just posted. Yours is gorgeous and so much bigger than mine. I think the winter look is very nice, but I love, love, love the summer look. I haven't done our windows yet...thanks for the tip about Big Lots.

  57. The winter look is the look that draws me in. The drapes are so awesome and I like the feel of the room.

  58. Gollum, I love them both! I like the pops of red for warmth in the winter, and I like the calm summer look, too. They each have something great to offer. Love the paintings you used in each. I think the dog paintings, though, are probably my favorite. I collect dog paintings and love them! I also like those cute rods with the summer look.

BTW, I decided I needed a new look for the front door. Well, I have been working on a burlap wreath like Debbie made, and I needed extra burlap. I went to the store and got some and some extra yardage. Well, it was a new roll and smelled to high heaven. I even questioned the lady at the fabric store. When my housekeeper got here, she made me air the house out and was convinced I had been poisoned because I had a headache... the headache came from everything I ate that I wasn't supposed to eat and did when the Saints won... celebratory eating, you know! ;-)

Anyhow, the house was just filled with that nasty hempy smell that goes hand in hand with burlap that is new and hasn't been deodorized, but man! So, whatever you do, don't do one of those wreaths inside your house. Work on it out on the terrace. I made mine extra thick, and it really is cute... was going to use it on the front door, but currently, it's banished to the garage where it might be banished forever unless it goes to live in St. Augustine and can have a sea breeze cure it. Just a head's up!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)
