Foodie Friday: Bird Biscuits plus Le Creuset Skillet Give-away

For a long ago Foodie Friday, I was inspired to make "bird biscuits," using canned biscuits.

"A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song."
-- Chinese Proverb

"The bluebird carries the sky on his back."
--Henry David Thoreau

"It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds."
--Aesop

"Simple Bird Biscuits"

  • canned biscuits (I used Pillsbury Grands)
  • bird-shaped cookie cutter
  • 1/4 stick melted butter
  • pastry brush
  • chopped parsley
  • chocolate dot (for the eyes)

Procedure: Dust a little flour onto a sheet of waxed paper. Use a rolling pin to gently flatten biscuits (roughly the size of your cookie cutter). Bake 350 degrees for 10 minutes or when browned.

Remove from oven. Brush biscuits with melted butter. Press chocolate eye into the appropriate spot. Garnish with parsley.

And that's it.

“I would rather learn from one bird how to sing than to teach 10,000 stars how not to dance.”
--E. E. Cummings

Aftermath:

"A messy kitchen is a happy kitchen, and this kitchen is delirious."
--Unknown

Those are so cute. I love all the quotes. Your kitchen quote reminds me of what my husband tells me about dogs--"a dirty dog is a happy dog". Guess it proves true for a lot of things! My kitchen is very happy most of the time!!! It is TOO HOT here to do anything in the kitchen!! Have burgers on the grill now!

Well those are cute. Not sure how I feel about the chocolate and the parsley, but a raisin wouldn't be much different. Maybe a peppercorn? You could send your guests grabbing for a glass of water or to the dentist?

Hi Michael Lee,

I'm always SO inspired by all the neat things you come up with. The little birdie biscuits are adorable & I can't wait to make them for my grandkidlets' next visit. I just have to find a similar cookie cutter.

I did a tablescape out in the gazebo using the beautiful tablecloth weights that I won from you.
2010/07/happy-100th-tablescape-thursday.html

They are simply wonderful & I thank you again for them.

fondly,
Rett

p.s. Hope the book writing is going well for you!

Michael, I could have sworn I posted a comment on this thread days ago. *Poof* ~lost in space~

I just love your little birdies & hope to find a similar cutter so I can make them for my grandkidlets. The birdhouse centerpiece on the tray is just outstanding. You've got such a wonderful talent for such creations.

I used your gift of the table weights in my tablescape this week. They are BEAUTIFUL & I thank you again for allowing me to win them.

fondly,
Rett
