I love picnics, old Adirondacks, and vintage tablecloths.

Salads are the perfect picnic food--easily transportable.

A decorative "beehive" to cover food.

Polka dots and plaid.

Fruit and blueberry scones are also easily transportable.

Epic thunderstorms passed through last night, and our internet is spotty today. I'm posting Foodie Friday early, just in case we lose wireless again.

ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful, summery setting! I love the rays of sunshine. I wish we could dine outside. I'm afraid the mosquitoes would carry us away!

Picnics are so much fun and relaxing...there is something about the outdoors, beautiful surroundings and food!
ReplyDeleteYour picnic looks amazing! I am jealous of your thuderstorms as we never get them in my area of Southern California and it hardly rains.
ReplyDeleteThe perfect setting for a perfect little nosh of perfect scones on some perfect little plates with exceptionally perfect napkins! Please tell us where you found that perfect 3 tiered server, Michael? I have a 2 tiered one but have been wanting 3 for a long time. Your's is...well...PERFECT!!

ReplyDeleteI was really pleasantly suprised to see that you like vintage tablecloths!
ReplyDeleteI love all the bright colors and patterns you've put together. Very cheery!
My hubby and I used to go on picnics often before we were married...
Our picnics usually consisted of salami, cheeses, crackers, smoked oysters, fruit, a bottle of wine and a bit of romance... Gee, whatever happened to those days!
Sherri;)
That looks so cheery! I always wondered what bloggers did with those bee skeps!
ReplyDeleteOur picnics are at the beach, so things that are easy to hold, unless you truly want a SAND wich, LOL!
Wonderful picnic. Love the set-up as much as the food!
ReplyDeleteSherry

Michael Lee, Your entry from last week's foodie friday was a hit at my house! Thanks for the wonderful salsa recipe.
ReplyDeleteThis week you have treated me to a cheery picnic. I love red and white and it is so fun for a picnic! The bee skeep is a brilliant idea to keep creepy crawlers away from the food. What a beautiful setting too! Now all we need is a good book... how about one of yours?
Thanks for hosting again!
Yvonne
Hi Miss M and thanks for hosting foodie friday! I love picnics so very much and we even have bocce balls and croquet to play since we do it so much! My recipe this week is a Bittman Broiled Grapefruit which was wonderful! Enjoy! alex@amoderatelife
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picnic! The scones look so dee-lish, love scones!
ReplyDeleteI love this post. Who wouldn't want to picnic in that perfect setting. Well...maybe my husband. The last time I tried to set up a little picnic outside a yellow jacket bit him. You can be rest assured he won't be agreeing to that again any time soon! The past couple of years I've been doing portable individual desserts when we take a lunch to eat elsewhere..kind of like mini trifles.
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence - the recipe I prepared for this week is a salad you can take on a picnic! I love picnics too, and your vintage tablecloths look so pretty. Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteI just love all the pictures in this blog! I also love picnics! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting. Your blog looks great!
ReplyDeleteCan I come picnic with you? I'm just a hop, skip and jump away!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous picnic. It looks like you could linger all day long.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting Foodie Friday.

ReplyDeleteWhat an exceptionally lovely and fresh idea with those two white chairs, the 'fresh' and oh-so-pretty red and white tablecloth and the beeskep with the the three tried server and yummy scones! ~ It just makes me so happy, (and hungry)~ to look at all of your lovely details and recipes this week.., Yum!
..,This lovely post of yours 'caught my eye' immediately while perusing the Tablescape Thursday posts at BNOTP!..,
Please kindly also consider joining me for this week's 45th, Tuesday Tea for Two, weekly blog party meme held @
http://theplumedpen.blogspot.com..,
~ My meme is all about afternoon tea; I would love to have you join us!.., ( Your relatively recent; 'Picnic on the Porch', post would be just perfect for instance)!
Please pop by for a visit sometime and take a wee perusal of your own of several of my recent posts if you'd care to..,
Have a marvelous Friday and coming weekend and thanks for hosting this delightful blog party, meme dear lady!
.., My favorite picnic food is a bit unusual; It's , 'baked beans'!.., My dear grandma and then later also her son, my dad; they used bake a heavenly, homemade crock of beans and then bury the crock pot in the sand to keep them toasty warm..,
.., They would then dig them up;( they were well sealed in their pot and well covered of course), and then serve them with fluffy biscuits, cheese, chow chow pickles, potato salad, coleslaw, tomatoes, cucumbers and country ham.., Just thinking about this lovely memory 'makes my mouth water'! ~ We live near the Atlantic Ocean in Nova Scotia, Canada..,
Cheers and hugs from Wanda Lee

Gollum, YIPPPEEEE! The salad servers arrived. I haven't seen them yet because I have been out of town, but Mr. Magpie says they are GORGEOUS. THANK YOU! I emailed you last night, but I wanted you to be sure to see this and to know that I will blog about them when I return from my blog break.
ReplyDeleteThanks again!
XO,
Sheila :-)
I love picnics any time, anywhere! My favorite memory though was right under the shade of a big tree in my backyard. Those in attendance were my mother, my sister, my daughter and myself. Three generations of strong women laughing, eating and enjoying time together. I'll never forget my mom's laugh and how much she loved my daughter. A special picnic indeed!
ReplyDeleteLove picnics, unfortunately the weather is already chilly and wet here.
ReplyDeleteBut for those in great warmer areas here is an awesome recipe for Red Velvet Cupcakes with a coconut, cream cheese, and marshmallow frosting...SO YUMMY!
Beautiful picnic setting with the red and white against nature's green. Love the bee skeep.
ReplyDeleteJust love the reds and whites. Looks so inviting!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful setting for a picnic. Lovely tablecloth!

ReplyDeleteYou would have loved the vintage tablecloths and all the other vintage stuff in the room that appears in my post (luludesigns). It was the most wonderful setting and so fitting for the spot.

I love all those things, Michael! Adirondack chairs especially. I linked up a frozen treat that can be either a beverage or a sherbet-type dssert. Light and refreshing ... perfect for your picnic setting. :-)
ReplyDeleteShirley
Wow...completed my post yesterday and forgot to link up...it's been one of those crazy weeks ;) Love your picnic and sure do hate to see summer end...I'm not ready for cold weather! Even with the incredibly hot summer we've had...it's my favorite season and I had it ending...let alone the fact that time just flys by way to fast. Have a wonderful weekend, fondly, Roberta

ReplyDeleteI love the tablecloth! Looks like a perfect picnic! I just got two adirondack chairs and can't wait to finish them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Love your blog.
ReplyDeletePolka dots, plaids and prints so very pretty; salads and scones how delicious!
ReplyDeleteFavourite picnic food would have to be a chilled glass of Chardonnay, french bread and creamy Brie. Best memory of a picnic; when I was about seven months old and could actually touch my toes without any difficulty (as in the photo). :)
HAVE A GREAT WEEK MICHAEL! -Brenda-
Makes me want to invite myself over for tea!
