Sometimes A Girl Needs Carbs

My diet has gone out the window for the rest of the summer, but it's for the Book, so that's fine by me. Dr. Big says the brain is fueled by carbs. I need all the help I can get.
I've written with and without carbs, and I've got to admit, ketosis just doesn't have that little extra sugar whompum.

I love having a partner in carbohydrate crime, so I lovingly set the table for two, me and Big Guy.
Bandwidth can write and cook. Not me. It's fast food all the way until I finish the new book. However, I garnished the coffee cake with fruit, so it isn't totally wicked. Right?
:-)

Foodie Friday: Bloggers' Recipes Plus What Am I?

Let's play a foodie game called
What Am I?

Am I leftover scenery from the film Avatar?

Or ...

Am I scrambled eggs?

Maybe I'm the hottest color from Sherwin Williams, "Sculpted Pea?"

Or...

Am I an angel's wings?

Could I be the blob that ate New Jersey?

Or a cupcake?

(Y'all are getting hotter.)

Am I a cake from Publix?

Answer: I'm an.....
(I know y'all have guessed)

Itsy bitsy sunflower cake with an icing bee.

Here are a few of the outstanding entries from the 3rd photography contest (mosaics). Big and Bandwidth had a very difficult time choosing the winners. They loved them all, including photos that weren't mosaics.
[edited to add: I forgot the mosaic. :-/ ]

The picnic basket goes to Scene of the Grime.

Suzy at Kitchen Bouquet and Butter Yum are the runners up. Let me know if you prefer Le Creuset prep bowls or tablecloth weights.

Got Cellulite? A Tongue-in-Cheek Essay

If Mischa Barton has cellulite, then what hope do I, a 55 year old cheesecake addict, have?

I decided to go underground and investigate cellulite--and to find alternative cures. I won't get into the causes of "orange peel skin," but if you are interested, you can read all about it at Cellulite Treatment Dot Org.

If you're like me, cellulite doesn't need a definition, although you can find one in Wiki.

Not even the stars are immune:

The media loves to stalk cellulite-prone celebrities:

But is there really a cure?
Thermage is a new method that uses a laser to dissolve cellulite. Available through a physician, each treatment can take a chunk out of your pocketbook--$4000.

Dermatologists are eagerly awaiting the FDA's approval on an ultrasound machine that supposedly zaps both fat AND cellulite.

Okay, what if time, energy, and money prevent you from indulging in these medical miracles? Well, apparently a few DIY methods are still around. Spa Wraps are affordable and, some say, effective ($80-$200)

New Fangled Anti-Cellulite Creams are all the rage, in all price ranges:
Soap & Glory Slimwear Puff Draining Peptide cream $13

Korres Garcinia and Guarana toning Cream, $38

Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Body Serum, $25

Chanel Body Excellence Firmign and Refining Serum, $120

Bliss Fat Girl Sleep, $38

I, Gollum, have done exhaustive research on the subject. I recommend a different sort of cream-related items:

Me, I would rather spend $$ on cute little cream pitchers.

Or I might listen to deliciously poofy music

How about an antique Nortiake whipped cream bowl and ladle from Replacements Ltd (price unavailable)?

Or what about this darling silver cream pitcher from Ruby Lane? ($58)

this antique cat pitcher is adorable

However, if you aren't in the mood for pitchers, I highly recommend a cream cake:

Or double cream from Devon (available at Publix in their British foods section):

But cellulite seems to be part of the natural world. A cellulite sky is a beautiful thing to behold:

It's all about how we look at the world, and ourselves--what we feel in the heart trumphs how the world sees us. We should all celebrate--and eat cake. :-)

A Kitchen Herb Garden, Bandwith's Photographs, & A Short Account of the Flood

My kitchen adventures have been in slow motion for a while, mainly due to illness and work, but everything came to a screeching halt last Saturday. The rain started early in the morning and soon the creek was threatening to spill over the road--thwarting my plans to attend author Lee Smith's book signing in Nashville. By 1 p.m., we were sticking every available towel under doors and windows to blot up the leaks. An hour later, the towels were heavy as watermelons, and my dryer was going 90 miles per hour. Around 3 p.m. we set out pans to catch drips. At 5 p.m., the basement ceiling caved in.
The rain continued to fall all day Sunday. We've been cleaning up the mess ever since--and counting our blessings because we got off easy compared to the rest of the mid-state.
Our garden took a beating, and my tiny patch of herbs washed away. So Big and I took a break this afternoon and bought a tiny kitchen herb garden at K-Mart.
It's totally cute, with three varieties of basil. I plan to keep this near a kitchen window--away from rain. We also bought two huge rosemary plants, which will go into the still-mushy garden. Eventually.
Bandwith has been playing with the camera--here's a look at the basil.

Bandy also snapped my new author photo with a 35 mm lens. I may use it for my new book, but Bandy wants several months to practice with the camera. Men. lol I'm hoping he will revive his food blog (hint, hint) and start taking pictures of his wonderful meals.

The mosaic photograph contest has been extended until next week, thanks to the screeching halt business. I miss tablescaping like crazy. I miss all of you.
