Tuesday Teaser, A Peek at Foodie Friday Giveaways, Plus a 1-Day Contest (American Atelier dishes)

Today is the pub date for The Welcome Home Garden Club, by Lori Wilde, New York Times bestselling author. You'll hear more about Lori this Thursday (I'll be posting Foodie Friday early), along with some fabulous goodies. In addition to a garden-themed gift basket, Lori is giving away a $100 gift card to 1-800-Flowers, just in time for Mother's Day. You'll have a chance to win copies of her book, along with gardening items, tablescaping items, and apple pie.

  • To celebrate Lori's pub date, I'm having a 1-day contest.

  • It starts now, Tuesday, March 29th, and ends Wednesday, March 30th, at midnight.

  • The winner will receive a 16-piece set of "Modern Country" stoneware dishes by American Atelier

4 dinner plates, 4 salad plates, 4 soup bowls, and 4 mugs.

To enter the contest, I'm sending you on a quick treasure hunt game. Stop by Lori's garden, check out the excerpt, then come back here and leave a comment, answering two questions:

1. Which character owns a floral shop?

2. What is the traditional meaning of carnations?

To have your name entered extra times, you can "Like" Lori's book on Facebook HERE and HERE.

The winner of the stoneware dish set will be announced this Foodie Friday, along with another treasure hunt--lots and lots of goodies (some are edible, some are flat-out gorgeous).

See you there!

Have fun with the treasure hunt!

Happy Pub Day, Lori!

The Traditional meaning for Sriped carnations is NO SORRY, I CANNOT BE WITH YOU.
Liked Lori's book on my facebook and on Amazon.com
BTW...it didn't specify if you only wanted the traditional meaning for striped carnation so here is the traditional meaning for different colors as well.
For the most part, carnations express love, fascination, and distinction, though there are many variations dependent on colour.

Light red carnations represent admiration, while dark red denote deep love and affection.
White carnations represent pure love and good luck, while striped (variegated) carnations symbolise regret that a love cannot be shared.
    Purple carnations indicate capriciousness.
Pink carnations have the most symbolic and historical significance. According to a Christian legend, carnations first appeared on Earth as Jesus carried the Cross. The Virgin Mary shed tears at Jesus' plight, and carnations sprang up from where her tears fell. Thus the pink carnation became the symbol of a mother's undying love.

    The Treasure Hunt Answers are:

    1. The floral shop is owned by Caitlin March

    2. The traditional meaning of carnations is, "No, sorry, I cannot be with you."

I also "liked" it on Borders and B&N with pleasure. This whole series is amazing. The Cookie Club one is my absolute favorite (though I seem to say that with every new installment LOL) and I can't wait to read the last one of the series. If it's one thing I love about Lori Wilde's books it's the consistency. Every book is fabulously written. You pick one of hers up and you know you're in for a great read. I haven't found a lot of authors who can do that.

    2. What is the traditional meaning of carnations? For the most part, carnations express love, fascination, and distinction, though there are many variations dependent on colour.

    * Light red carnations represent admiration, while dark red denote deep love and affection.
    * White carnations represent pure love and good luck, while striped (variegated) carnations symbolise regret that a love cannot be shared.

The above, variegated, was mentioned in the excerpt, "Traditional meaning of striped carnations—No, sorry, I cannot be with you."

    * Purple carnations indicate capriciousness. In France, it is a traditional funeral flower, given in condolence for the death of a loved one.
    * In France and Francophone cultures, carnations symbolize misfortune and bad luck.
    * Pink carnations have the most symbolic and historical significance. According to a Christian legend, carnations first appeared on Earth as Jesus carried the Cross. The Virgin Mary shed tears at Jesus' plight, and carnations sprang up from where her tears fell. Thus the pink carnation became the symbol of a mother's undying love.
    * Carnation is the birth flower for those born in the month of January.

The formal name for carnation, dianthus, comes from Greek for "heavenly flower", or the flower of Jove.

Yeah...I went overboard on this, but I love flowers. Sorry!

  59. Loved hearing about Lori, and her book series! What wonderful giveaways! Wish I could have dinner with you at Laurie's next week. I had a lamb born in the night, it a ram. I named him Leo. My husband says he is my Birthday present for he 3 days early. He was so surprised when he went to let the sheep out of the barn, and there was Leo. All our other lambs were born at Christmas and a few weeks later. Enjoyed this post very much
