Welcome to the April 22nd Foodie Friday! Today we're celebrating the fictional food in the novel Gone With a Handsomer Man. However, this is optional--non-Teenyrecipes are welcome! Next-week, the Teeny recipes
will continue (again--optional).
[Update: I came home from a book signing and saw the Very Large Thumbnails--aggggg!
I think they drank the
tea in Alice In Wonderland and ballooned. For now,
there will be 2 columns. I've emailed Inlinkz for help.]

Teeny Templeton, the fictional heroine of Gone With a Handsomer Man, grew up with in an all-female household--all of the women used food as a form of comfort. Sometimes...imaginary food.
Teeny's mom "paired" entrees with music and Bible verses."Mama was right fond of ZZ Top's 'Poke Chop Sandwhich' paired with Isaiah 65:4, along with a tried-and-true recipe for pan-fried pork cutlets--so moist and butter-like you could cut them with a spoon."
"When Mama fried soft-shell crabs, she paired them with Elvis's 'Softly, As I Leave You," with Psalm 65:10."
If you haven't cooked a recipe from the novel (or even if you have), would you like to pair your favorite recipe with music and quotes/verses/poems?
Remember, this is imaginary cooking--no mess, no calories, just fun. :-)
I'm still touring, and therefore discombobulated, so the winners from last week's "imaginary pairing" contest will be announced tomorrow morning! Please check back.
The prizes for last week's contest include:
Copper pan
16 pc set of dishes (the one below is out of stock--but something similar will be substituted or a gift certificate will be issued)
Gone With A Handsomer Man -- Hardback
GWAHM audio book (to-be-released April 27th)

Looking forward to your imaginary pairings!

I would like to pair My 5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake with the song "Oompa Loompa" from Willy wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie:)
ReplyDeleteHi Michael, I am really coming up with 0 for this meme. I keep thinking about the Dr. Seuss book my husband used to read our kids sometime around Easter week when we would dye the eggs. He would read " I do not like them Sam I am...I will not eat green eggs and ham". We would have green eggs and ham for breakfast. Happy Easter to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI think that Teeny's (and my) red velvet cupcakes should be paired with "Lady In Red"!
ReplyDeleteSince I stole this cake recipe and Johnny Cash sang about stealing car parts, link mine with "One Piece At A Time". :))
ReplyDeleteSorry I couldn't play in this fun Teeny recipes...I haven't read the book yet...but, I WILL..I WILL !!
Thanks so much for the books (I read them both). I am going to have to try the Lavender Shortbread next as I made lavender sugar last fall and haven't done anything with it.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not a book for a low carb dieter - they would fall of the wagon right away!
How about the words to the song - "You fill me up..." I just wanted to eat the whole time I was reading - it needs to come with a pastry!
While I was reading Gone With a Handsomer Man, the power went out. Not kidding!! I finished reading the book by candle light! I am pairing the peach coffee cake with the "The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia!
ReplyDeleteI think I will "Pear" the food I've shown with, I wish I were in Dixie." Dixie may have fresh peaches now, but we sure don't! So I had to use pears!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the books,I've read Lori Wilde's Garden Club and I received Gone with a Hansomer Man yesterday, hurried up and cooked Teeny's Vanilla Peach Pecan Coffee Cake(and boy-O-boy)is it ever so good.
ReplyDeleteThis was so much fun!

Hi Michael! Have fun on your tour! I can't think of anything for this particular post! Just wanted to say hi!
ReplyDeleteI'll pair Teeny's Espresso Steak rub with Frank Sinatra's 'They Grow An Awful Lot of Coffee in Brazil, aka The Coffee Song with the quote 'Kissing don't last: cookery do' by
ReplyDeleteGeorge Meredith :)
OOOPS! I posted my recipes without realizing it was a Teeny night. I apologize. You can take them off! On a good note though, I bought Handsomer Man tonight and am reading it on my Nook right now. (I am supposed to be packing up my house for a big move, but I decided I needed to read this first!) Lori L
ReplyDeleteOK, to play the game...and keeping it Southern...I'd pair Sweet Potato Pie with the song "In The Sweet By and By" and also use the quote - “Pie and Coffee is approximately the third best social interaction a man can hope to have with a woman.” Now I need to go read! Lori L
ReplyDeleteI just saw the giveaway post over at Stone Gable!!!! What a wonderful give away!!!!! Thanks again! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteMichael Lee, I hope you are having a grand time on tour. Thank you again for having a copy of Gone With a Handsomer Man arrive on it's debut day. Love it! Teeny's character is full of spunk, just as I'd expect from you. I'm looking forward to the sequel.
ReplyDeleteI just had to make Red Velvet Cake to celebrate. As for music paring as the Templetons would do, there is a Gordon Lightfoot song about being all dressed up in red velvet and high heeled shoes so fine, but for some reason Blue Velvet kept playing in my mind.
Thanks again for entertaining us with your creative talents. All the best ~ Sarah
What a great time you must be having on your tour. I am always amazed at how imaginative and creative you are--- no wonder your books are so hot!!
ReplyDeleteThe book is great Michael, I really enjoyed it! Thanks so much for your generosity and this fun atmosphere! I hope to make something for next week too:@)

ReplyDeleteOh all of the food looks so good. I love the sweet sugared slippers!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter to you and yours!
I'd pair my Peeps Bird Nest Treats with Surfin' Bird, by the Trashmen. It's my kids favorite song to dance to, LOL.
