Foodie Friday 7/1/11

Welcome to the July 1st Foodie Friday, where recipes abound and copper is king--well, for this post, anyway.
I own few copper pieces and I use them every day. My pans might have a patina (I clean them once in a pale blue moon), but they're so practical and lovely, I use them for baking and serving.

When I wrote  Gone With A Handsomer Man (if you're new to FF, this is my most recent novel, and if you're an old friend and you're familiar with Teeny, you might want to skip this part), I gave the main character a deep longing for copper cookware, placing it right up there with love.

"All I ever wanted in life was true love, a set of copper cookware, and the perfect recipe for red velvet cake. The last thing I wanted was to end up on Charleston's six o'clock news, accused of murder and a slew of other crimes."

There's just something elegant and timeless about copper.

If you'd like a chance to win this teeny copper pan, leave a message about the type of cookware you love.

For other cool giveaways, visit The World According to Teeny. The Kindle contest ends July 10th, so there's still time to enter. The goodie-stuffed beach bag contest (which includes an autographed copy of GWAHM), ends July 10th, too.

Or maybe you'd love a "Teeny," vintage lemon coin purse (not the one in the book--that one will be given away later this summer)?

How about a sea turtle cutting board, egg cups, dishes, or Teeny's Lemonade Mix?
Here's a sampling of the giveaways:

To enter the giveaways, say hello to Miss Teeny at The World According to Teeny.

The Week In Review
What's going on in your neck of the woods? These days, I rarely leave home--I'm working on revisions for Teeny 2--and I'd love to know what you are doing this summer.

As for Bald Hill Farm, ducklings and baby pheasants arrived via US Mail. The PO guys were relieved when we showed up to collect the boxes, which were labeled "bio-hazard" and emitted relentless peeps. The PO guys eagerly helped us load the boxes into the truck.
UPDATE: A glitch in Blogger won't let me post comments, even to my own blog/s, but I wanted to mention that the ducks, geese, and pheasants are our pets. All of the animals on the farm are pets. We aren't gathering eggs this summer because we're encouraging our hens to "set" on their nests so we'll have chicks.

As for non-farming activities, I've been catching up on blogging. I write posts in batches, usually around 11 pm, and schedule them; but this week, Blogspot fired off my posts willy-nilly, ignoring my scheduling edicts. Nor would Blogger let me comment--even on my own blog.
How I Find Time To Blog and Write Fiction was published on the heels of Interior Design 101 for Writers, along with a bunch of Teeny posts, including part 2 of the Spencer-Jackson House's dish collection.

Then, last night, Blogspot started hiccuping again, and posts were eaten; others were accidentally published, including a test post for Foodie Friday. When I'm finished with the revisions to Teeny 2, I'll probably move the Acquainted With the Night blog to Wordpress. Has anyone made the move without regrets? If so, I'd love to hear your comments.

Just in case Blogger goes down again, I'm  posting Foodie Friday a bit early.

If you are a contributor to Foodie Friday's weekly recipe exchange, add your permalink below (look for the blue frog). Be sure to add a Foodie Friday link to your post. If you're new to FF, a TUTORIAL is available. As always, thank you so much for contributing your recipes and photography to FF. You are loved and appreciated. I hope you have a safe, fabulous July 4th weekend.

I really like the simply calphalon pans because absolutely nothing sticks to it and everything just seems to cook perfectly.

I am so jealous that you actually met and talked to Charles Faudree!! Before I found blogs I had only met one person who had even heard of him!! My daughter asked me one day if I could talk to anyone dead or alive besides Jesus who would it be. Guess who I said!! She thought I was crazy so I said well maybe Charles and Ronald Reagan!! I've never cooked with copper, I just love my nonstick pans, though I hear they aren't as healthy. I need a new pan for my eggs!

I don't use wordpress but I've heard that it's more reliable.

I am reading your first book Crazy Ladies and I am in love with the characters. I'm about half way done and I have 2 others here that I bought! :-)

I used to collect the copper. I kept it in my kitchen. This gets me yearning to pull it all out and display it. It's so pretty. I didn't think that it went with the new look in the kitchen, but your pics have changed my mind now. Love it all!

I love copper as well, altho I only have a few pieces. My choices depend on what I'm cooking - stainless, non-stick, or cast iron all work for me! Thanks for the opportunity...

Gorgeous examples of some well-loved copper kettles, ML! I bought myself some new Cuisinart non-stick pans after Christmas & have really been enjoying them lately.

How fun to get to see the little baby ducks! That sleeping one is just precious beyond words. Thanks for making me sigh.

I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July holiday with your family.
fondly,
Rett

I only have one cooper pan right now which is a small saute pan. I love it! I also love all of my old-fashioned cast iron pans. Otherwise, I usually cook with stainless steel.

What is up with Blogger these days! It took a really long time for your site to load and normally it's not a problem at all.

I love the look of copper but it bothers me when it's not polished so I don't use my favorite Mauvier pan as much as I might otherwise. For everyday I use a pan that is made here in the USA called ManPans. It is really lightweight and easy to maintain- I love it!
I shared my recipe for Chocolate Chiffon Cookies today. This recipe is gluten free, but it can be made using "regular" flour if you don't have an issue with gluten.
Thanks for hosting!

I moved to Wordpress last week and I love it! Favorite plugins: Permalink finder - fixes links both within the site and with search engines. Editorial Calendar - You can see everything at once and drag posts to the day you want them.

BTW, I love my circulon pots and pans. I've been using them for 15 years and they are still going strong.

My mom cooked with a copper pan before and loved it! However, we can't afford one on our own as they are so terribly expensive so I hope to win this one!

I have one gorgeous copper pot, and I only use it for risotto. Not sure why, but I am a creature of habit, and I can't break myself from my one purpose for the pot.

Hi Michelle :->
Last year I moved our blog to blogspot from Xanga. Nobody could leave us comments on the xanga blog unless they too had a xanga account :-[
I have tried setting it up so that postings post automatically at a set time, but it has never worked, I have always later found them still sitting as a 'draft'. So now when I'm on a composing roll, I type them up as email drafts, then quickly copy and post them according to my mental schedule, which I make a note of in the email subject line.

I wish you ease in your cyber move!

Just started reading your books, Crazy Ladies was really good, funny.. will move on to others...keep it up...books bring such enjoyment to the world!! Happy 4th!!! Blessings...Marti

I have never cooked with copper, but there is something whimsical and elegant about cooking with copper that I would love to try.

But, I like to cook with stainless cookwear, or cast iron. I only use my non-stick when necessary.

Sarah said...

Definitely copper! It's the best for cooking and we love the look as well.
Beautiful post with all the photos of gorgeous copper in kitchens. Ours hangs on pot racks and sits on shelves.
We like to use it for serving too and will be doing so for our party on the 4th.
Sweet baby chicks! ;-)

I adore copper cookware! *heart* those pics.

But I am truly smitten by your wee new additions to the farm. We didn't add any brand new feathered friends this year, but maybe in a couple of years when our girls slow down on their productivity.

Have a wonderful, long weekend ~ Happy 4th to you and your family. Thank you for all that you share with us! xoxo
