Foodie Friday

Welcome to the September 16th Foodie Friday.
I've been experimenting with a slow cooker (to see if I can truly write and cook at the same time), and I'm happy to report that it's possible. The chili was a success.

Chili
chopped onions, celery, and bell peppers
ground sirloin
tomato sauce
chopped (canned) tomatoes
pinto beans (canned; drain)
beef bouillion
brown sugar (sometimes I add a dark, sweet chocolate bar)
chili powder
paprika
garlic
Tabasco

Sautee vegetables in canola oil. Add meat and cook until browned.
Add everything else. Pour into a slow cooker. Relax, garden, or write a novel.
Serve with favorite condiments

Now I just need to take a bite out of these revisions, and I'll be set.
If you are contributing a recipe to this week's FF, add your link below (look for the blue frog). Thanks for visiting!

What a mouth watering bowl of chili! Tummy warming and satisfying. I can imagine myself curl up on the sofa with my blanky and a bowl of this yumminess. Perfect for a cool Autumn evening.

Can't get the link to work at 1:37 Mountain time.
I tried two computers, and it won't open.

Chili looks wonderful. Still too hot here for that though it won't be long.

Loving the fact that the changing of the seasons means my husband just might start making chili again very soon! His is the best, I wouldn't even try to make it myself because I know it wouldn't come close!

I'm firing up the crock pot tomorrow~ it will be chili weather this weekend! I'm looking forward to it even though it's a teaser and we'll be back in the 80s next week :-)

Under the listing of things that make me happy, chili has to be up there in the top ten...interesting recipe...I will have to try the chocolate or brown sugar!

I love adding chocolate and/or a bit of sugar to offset the heat of chili! You recipes looks delicious and is making me long for a cool fall evening to enjoy it!

My kids would confirm that I am crazy if I would add chocolate to my chili. Yours looks wonderful. I too am interested in doing more crockpotting. I have a few specialties, but I would like to do more. Love your pics.

Michael Lee, You are one busy woman! I commend you for making a meal in the midst of revisions. That would probably be my most dreaded job!
The addition of a little chocolate sounds divine. I am of the school, chocolate goes with everything!
Good thoughts coming your way!

Oooooo, does THAT sound good for today...I woke up to temps in the 40's!!! Brrrrr!

Around here, folks add a titch of cinnamon to their chili..."Cincinnati Chili" is what they call it. Not too much, though or it will overpower. I'd put it in at the end of the crockpot cooking time.

Thanks for doing FF again while you're up to your eyeballs otherwise.
Most appreciate all you do,
fondly,
Rett

I am jammed to the gills with equipment but I have thought a slow cooker would be fun (that and a sous vide machine!). ONe of these days. Hope the book is going well. I am trying to write a proposal and HATE IT!!

Fall and chili ... yes, a perfect pairing! Love your chili photos and the cool pic with the lips and chili pepper. :-)

I've linked up my "knockoff" recipe for the fabulous Lime-Cilantro Chicken Salad from a local restaurant. Truly divine.

Headed camping this weekend, Michael, and will be taking your Gone with a Handsomer Man to read. My sister loved it! She was surprised when I told her I "knew" you. ;-)

Have a great weekend all!
