I like to write about places I've visited.
So I wasn't surprised at all when the characters in Acquainted With the Night went to Greece.
Kalambaka is a small town that sits in the shadows of Meteora, the cliff-top monateries.
Here's Varlaarm Monastery, perched atop a boulder. It was amazing to drive up and see these pillars rising into the fog. Like a dream.
Since food is a major issue in our family, we visited many sidewalk cafes and tavernas.
Moussaka is pure comfort food.
And I ate many gyros--these are pita-wrapped (homemade-in-Greece pitas).
I will eat chick peas straight from the can, so I was in Foodie heaven when I found hummus.
And for dessert--baklava.
Naturally (because I'm a natural foodie), I have a desperate need to feed people. I love feeding my characters while I'm writing, so Caro and Jude enjoyed several authentic Greek meals. I ended up cutting some of the descriptions because AWTN is a thriller, not a food-fest, but my characters didn't lack for calories. :-)
I wish I could sink my fangs into a thick, sweet chunk of baklava right now.
AWTN hits bookstores on November 29th. I can't wait!! To celebrate, I'm giving away a Kindle (and free, *real* books, your choice).
The deadline is October 27th. Visit Piper's blog for details.

A very Happy Anniversary to you and your husband. Your pics are stunning and I adore Greek food, especially stuffed grape leaves! Thank you for hosting, I am so happy to be joining you.
Hugs,

Happy Anniversary. I love Greek food too!!! I'm a happy girl with really good Greek feta and I love gyros and hummus. If Baba ghanousi is Greek too, then that's my favorite...the eggplant spread. I make a Romanian version but love it at our local Pasha Grill!
Opa ~ Happy Anniversary Michael and Dr. G!!! Hope you're having a super celebration.
Love the picture book images of Greece ~ so much better than we're seeing on the news these days. xoxo
Happy Anniversary! Love the pictures from Greece. ~ Ellen
Happy anniversary! How wonderful to hear of another long term marriage. It seems like there are so few of us left...
Greek food...I LOVE IT! Living close to Tarpon Springs (FL), we get to indulge in "the real thing" whenever we want. I am a huge fan of kalamata olives, too. Especially when finely chopped into hummus. This is my favorite afternoon snack..with celery or carrots. I also love a biscotti...recipe was given to me by a 90 yr. old Greek lady, from Greece. It uses mastika...It's a bit difficult to find, but she gave me some of her stash... These are the BEST cookies I have ever had with coffee or tea!
I love Greek Salad.
Happy aniversary and great food:)
Happy Anniversary! That is just wonderful. We had a fall wedding too.
I'm also celebrating an anniversary - my blog's 3rd this week.
Thank you for sponsoring this great weekly event. I love Greek food too and am so concerned for the people of Greece at this time. My favorite Greek foods are Greek salads and gyros. Have a wonderful weekend and let your husband spoil and pamper you Michael. You deserve it.
Sam
I've never been to Greece but love the food... it is no wonder it's considered the healthiest on the planet.
Such tough times they are going through now... my thoughts are with them.
Thanks for hosting! I posted a profile of poppy seed with cooking ideas and a video on dehydrating apples along with cooking ideas for all of those apple chips.
Thanks fir hosting. I'm sharing a super easy and tasty protein cookie recipe that is gluten free and dairy free. Best part is that it doesn't have all the junk that store bought protein cookies have!
Happy Anniversary! Your photos of Greece are beautiful! Thanks for hosting!
