Foodie Friday

Dirt is inevitable when you live on a farm. Dirty hands, floors, and feet. When we first moved to the farm, my mother said I was like Zsa Zsa Gabor on Green Acres. I walked my Yorkies on leashes. My  husband was like Eddie Albert, plowing in his Burberry sweater.
We settled into farm life real fast. My secret Fear of Icky Things vanished. I learned to mend fences, gather eggs, bottle feed baby goats.
There's almost too much to love about living in the country. Each day has still, beautiful moments: ducks on the pond, donkeys grazing, lambs scampering after the ewes.
I love gathering eggs on a crisp fall morning. I love it when my husband comes in, minus the Burberry, with grimy hands, and he says, Look at these beautiful eggs.

To make cornbread, a cook needs eggs.
I've been on a cornbread spree. I've made it from scratch, using meal and flour, and I've made it from a mix. Our favorite was a Martha White mix (but I added 2 eggs, creamy milk, and 1 T sugar).
I managed to take a picture before the cornbread disappeared.

Note to self: Stop. Making. Cornbread. Diet!

Here's a picture of Murphy, one of the three Yorkie boys.
He's the father of Mister and Zap.
(Zap is doing much better--the insulin is bringing down his blood glucose. I'm making more diabetic dog cookies today.)

Finally, a view from my back porch:

No matter what is going on at the farm, I always take a moment at sunset to give thanks.

Cornbread is my very favorite. I like it made with no sugar and very little flower, mostly corn meal. So good. I put a lot of fresh ground black pepper in mine too. Thanks for sharing. Richard from My Old Historic House.

Beautiful pictures Michael, the heavenly sky and the earthy eggs. A friend was just telling me that she made 2 corn breads today and froze them to use for stuffing for Thanksgiving. Thank you for hosting.

It must be so tranquil living on a farm, deadlines aside. Sunset is also one of those times that my husband and I love to stop what we're doing and enjoy together. It just a shame it happens so early now! Glad to hear Zap is doing better too. Love the dog bed!

It seems that our food mood's the same! My corn fritters are much like a corn bread. I'll take it in any form I can get it! ; )

Michael Lee, There is something so romantic about the thought of living on a farm. We live in a farmhouse inspired home with farmland all around but we don't collect eggs or have frolicking lambs (little sigh)! Sounds so bucolic! We do have dirt from the farms and flies, and changing scenery and barbed wire!
Your view from your back porch is one of the best perks of living in the country! So beautiful and a sight that would give me pause to be thankful too!
Wonderful post! Thanks for hosting FF!

I almost got a Yorkie when I got a dog a long time ago now. The second dog I looked at was a toy poodle and I ended up going with him. I like your photos of the sky. Pat
