Foodie Friday

Today was a Wuthering Heights sort of day, so after I finished my work for the afternoon, I pulled out the New Old House file and made notes about our kitchen-to-be, so I can be prepared when I meet with our general contractor. The room is u-shaped and the island is so big, I can play tag with Dr. G.
My present island gets a lot of use (abuse), but it is also chunky and offers minimal storage. Sometimes it feels like a blockade.

But if you are a foodie and a closet designer, kitchen decisions aren't simple. For the new old house, I may or may not move the island to the laundry room (somehow--and hope there's wood beneath it) as a folding area, and I'll add a farm table with chairs in the kitchen.
Or I could add a freestanding island (Crate and Barrel). True, antique reproductions cost more, and this CB island is not budget-friendly. Since it's also smallish, or appears to be, I might need two. But will I need two sets of pendants? And size could be tricky.
If I'm truly sold on this idea (less storage vs openness), I'll hunt for alternatives.

In the above photo, the island is shown with two black pendant lights.

And here, below, no lighting (that I can see).

And here we see one pendant, also from Crate and Barrel. It looks like one would work for this table (4.5' X 2'), and it also looks like a plunger. It's scary how setting and scale affects lighting:
All photos from Crate and Barrel

Here's the marble island from the film It's Complicated:

Two pendants. Two lovebirds.
And lots of sealer for the marble! But not too much or the marble will get cloudy.
I love the way this kitchen (below) looks like it belongs to a Foodie. It's user friendly, relaxed, and it's also charming.

This Foodie Friday, be sure to leave a message and describe your recipe!

I look forward to your kitchen choices! I am joining Foodie Friday with Santa Hat brownie bites. Supplies needed are a brownie mix, small strawberries, white chocolate chips, a mini muffin pan and piping bag and tip. They are sooo cute and were the hit of the party!

Thanks for hosting Foodie Fridays. Today Jordan (Spring) at The 2 Seasons has posted a recipe for coconut macaroons. We both LOVE coconut, and this is an easy and delish recipe. Too bad I am here in the south too far away from her to taste one.

Looks like the house project is coming along, so many decisions, so much fun. I am sharing my newest creation Cranberry Turkey Tamale for our Christmas Eve Buffet. I have a sweet Tamale that I will bring next week for dessert. Have a great week end and thanks for hosting!

Hi Michael - I have two recipes to share with you today:

Ganache Filled Snowflake Cookies - decorative bites of chocolate heaven in all sorts of festive designs.

Bailey's Irish Cream and Pistachio Fudge - a super simple recipe that requires only 4 ingredients and no candy thermometer. Btw, this recipe went up against 82 other fudge recipes and won the most votes for the Ultimate Fudge Challenge.

Have a great weekend,
Patricia

Have fun renovating your kitchen. The marble island is beautiful. I shared a coconut baskets recipe and a chocolate wafer cookies recipe today. These coconut baskets have a flakey crust with a lemony coconut center and the chocolate cookies have simple, pure chocolate flavor. Thank you for hosting us again and have a great week!

I'd love to have the kitchen with those fat-bottomed pillars... that could hold things like processors away from view.

I am also looking at islands with air instead of big blocks... found a nifty old restaurant one that is calling my name.... lots of space underneath for big pots (mine are currently up high which is really dumb but the only place they fit). I also like the idea that they can move a bit.

Fun going through the process with you!

Isn't that kitchen just sublime. The kitchen from It's Complicated gets a lot of coverage because it so relaxed and user friendly. Good luck with your project. I'm sharing a recipe for power bars that could easily sneak their way onto a Christmas platter they're so good.

Big Sissy turned 13 and so the Chocolate Peppermint Torte was requested for her bday cake. The cake was perfect...moist, the peppermint filling was light and not overpowering. I added a little peppermint extract to the chocolate glaze which I thought added a nice touch. The flavors compliment Christmastime nicely and this recipe would be great as little cupcakes.

Hello Michael. If I had the opportunity to redo my kitchen I would choose the kitchen pin the movie Practical Magic - it is wonderful!
I am happy to join you this week for Foodie Friday in sharing a holiday favorite - Christmas Breakfast Bread - It is easy to make and have on the sideboard for anyone to eat whenever they're ready. I always make Ina Garten's Cinnamon Rolls, fresh fruit, juice and coffee to go along for a relaxed Christmas brunch. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
God Bless,
Kathy
