After the Rain

After three days of relentless rain, the sun came out, blazing in a peculiar blue-green light. I looked up from my desk, out the window, and saw a rainbow--and the faint etching of a second rainbow. You can see it in the upper left corner. Well, you would have thought I'd won the lottery or an all-expense paid trip to Europe. Nothing could have thrilled me more than a double rainbow. Shoot, even one would make my day!
In six decades, I've seen many rainbows, but this one was special: it was the first rainbow that I'd spotted at Rattlebridge. I guess we all do that when we move to a new house. As we settle in, making ourselves at home, building a fresh history, we can't help but gather a lists of "firsts." And here is my first rainbow (not quite a double, but a 1.5 rainbow).

From the hilltop, the rainbow stretched over my little corner of the middle Tennessee basin.

 Finally, it began to fade.

The pot of gold is simple and true: a rainbow allows us to experience the magic and mysteries of childhood, no matter if we are six, sixteen, or sixty.

May your day be filled with a touch of magic.

  5. Oh, it's beautiful, Michael!! I'm so glad you shared with us; the pictures of your surrounding countryside are so pretty! My husband and I saw a double rainbow, end to end, a few weeks ago while we were driving on I-40. Unfortunately, taking a picture was not an option, but we still enjoyed its magical beauty.

    Have a great day!

    Hugs,

    Denise

  13. How beautiful to view that gorgeous rainbow, Michael Lee! My favorite sighting was when we laid my hubby's ashes to rest at his favorite spot, it started raining, and all of a sudden, behind us, the sun came out, and a beautiful rainbow made its appearance. It will be forever etched in my family's memories.
