A Walk in the Country

All of a sudden, October is winding down. Sunset comes sooner and sooner, bringing a sharpness to the air, making me think of two words I dread more than rats and bees (polar vortex). It's time to bring out nubby sweaters, scarves, and tartan blankets. Time to relish these waning days, enjoying the last of the roses and hydrangeas, watching the sun stretch out over the hilltop.

Each month offers its charms, but October is the artist.

October is a bit of a therapist, too, reminding us that everything that ends will begin again.

October light is like no other, dappled and dramatic, deep and mellow.

"There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October."
-- Nathaniel Hawthorne

  6. Oh how I loved your post. All of the photos were stunning and I sure miss the hills and mountains of Virginia. We do not get that effect here in So CA.

Enjoy your weekend with all the beautiful fall foliage.
