Pumpkins and Sunflowers: an Al Fresco Lunch

I love the bright, bold colors of autumn--a dash of paprika, a sprinkle of cinnamon, a pinch of saffron. Now that the weather is a bit cooler, I'm enjoying the porch. It's fun to switch around the furniture and make cozy dining areas.

The rocking chairs were Mother's Day gifts. They came from the local Cracker Barrel. I added a sunflowers and a mixed bouquet--and plenty of pumpkins.

We enjoyed a light lunch--flatbread pizzas.

This post is dedicated to the memory of our dear Pat at Back Porch Musings.

  9. I so cried when I learned Pat passed away - it's so weird how our hearts get involved with our blogging friends - true emotional attachments. I am one to wear my heart on my sleeve - I'd rather be guilty of love than regret not showing it. Life's too short to hide.

As for your AMAZING porch decor and pictures - wow wow wow - looks amazing. You did a perfect job! We're talking cover-of-most-popular-magazine-kinda wow!

Aren't you LOVING this cooler weather? I soooo need to clean up the gardens and get my zen room fall ready - but too busy then too lazy - but I need to SOON. You have inspired me, for SURE!

Big hugs. Love your CB rockers - we don't have any near us but whenever we travel my hubs knows to stop by one so I can rock in the rockers then go shopping inside. It's easy to spend time there- such fun browsing - and the candy options is the stuff made of childhood dreams. ♥

  11. Sweet....on the porch....apropos.
I really enjoyed your grace notes too. It gives me no pleasure better than to be able to be doing what I choose to be doing at this point in my life, in my time, and my place. Thank you for inviting us in to catch glimpses of yours too. Yours is a place I really enjoy seeing your style, ebbing and flowing along life's little winding path. I hope you have a great week.

  13. I would love to come and hang out on your porch...how festive! The Cracker Barrel rockers are perfect. Their comfort food is so filling you can either work it off shopping or sit in the rockers until you can make it to your car!

My heart is breaking over Pat. I have been seeing so many tributes to her, most of them saying almost the same thing, she was a wonderful blogging icon and now, just gone too soon.

Your Fall porch décor is gorgeous and I have a couple of those CB rockers in white too. They sit on my front porch and we love them. Before reading this post I read the post before, How to be a Happy Blogger. It was an inspirational post. Thank you.

    1. Hi, Gerry. I found out when I read a post over Cuisine Kathleen.com. Kathleen wrote about Pat's passing and also about the death of our friend Susan from Thoughts from Over the Rainbow. You can read a tribute by The Scribbler, too. Links are at www.cuisinekathleen.com. I am so surprised and saddened to hear that these sweet, loving ladies have passed.

    1. I know. I'm still so sad. My mother was critically ill this summer, and I was away from blogging. I wish I had known Pat was ill. We all loved her so. As for the wreath--thank you! I'll put a photo on Instagram.

  23. Your porch is adorable, Michael! I hope your mom is with you to enjoy all these darling vignettes as I know you had mentioned she'd be staying awhile with you in the fall.
I am so sad of heart over the news of Pat and, likewise, of Susan from Thoughts...the Rainbow although I never saw her site. I did visit Pat's site occasionally and always was impressed by her tastes in decor. It would seem that once we get to our senior years, we would grow reconciled to our growing losses, but they become harder and harder to bear.

    1. Mom is home again. We cooked and cooked while she was here, and she enjoyed talking about olden times. I was stunned to hear about Susan...and then her husband passed only a month after her. Pat's passing hit me hard, too. You're right bout our senior years and losses. xxoo

  24. What a beautiful porch to have an alfresco lunch...and yes, nothing like sunflowers and pumpkins to set the stage for a beautiful Fall day. So reminds me of what Pat would do too!...I am still so saddened over her passing...the world lost a beautiful soul...I shall miss her and our conversations...she was truly a person who showed great love and compassion and was always there to lend a hand to anyone in her life. She had great style and grace. We will all miss her terribly!

  26. Michael,
Your front porch is filled with fall inspiration. Your tribute to Pat touched my heart. To live a life, to make a difference, that friends all over the internet mourn your passing is a life well-lived. Friends who graciously pay tribute are friends worth knowing. May you find comfort.
