The underporch has always been an interesting area. At one time, it was a carport, then it became a tidy storage area for previous residents.

If you've followed the ranchburger's adventures, then you know about the curious, little room off the mudroom. It had been a creative space (along with storage) for a Nashville chef. When I saw her vase and dish collection, I knew this house might put up with me, seeing as I liked that sort of thing.

All winter, the screened porch stayed empty. Cold temperatures--and snow--kept me indoors; but I never stopped dreaming about the porch. I knew one thing: decorating this space wouldn't happen in one fell swoop. It would take time. Our move hadn't been easy. The spirit was willing to pull things together, but the body refused to cooperate. Not to worry. I would use what I had and hope that when the right pieces came along, I would have funds to buy them.

After too many cold, rainy days, we were blessed with a warm, sunny afternoon, the air laced with birdsong. The screened porch looked so inviting, with a soft breeze stirring the curtains. Memorial Day is coming up--and more rain is in the forecast--why not celebrate now?

Welcome to Foodie Friday and Everything Else--so glad you're here.Has it been chilly in your neck of the woods? We've had temps in the 50s, sweater weather, the kind that makes me want to huddle in plaid blankets and drink hot tea. I managed to work on the kitchen a little.

Welcome to Foodie Friday and Everything Else. I'm sharing a flashback to May 2013, when I spruced up a store-bought pound cake, and as I recall, the cake was much tastier than anything I've ever baked (or maybe I was hungry?).

Welcome to Foodie Friday and Everything Else. The party began in 2009, back in the olden days of blogging. It's always fun to see old friends--some are original Foodie Friday folks--and to meet new bloggers. The party reminds me of an old fashioned home demonstration club, where people share projects, recipes, home decorating, tablescaping and everything else.
Speaking of olden time blogging, this week Google rolled out a new change for blogspot blogs--a secure https, which has really made it difficult for me to create new posts. Apparently I have mixed content on my sidebar and in the blog, such as photographs and links to Instagram and Twitter. I'll have to hire a blog fairy to sort it out.
But now, it's party time.

My yellow Knockout roses are blooming like crazy, but they could be doomed. Five other KO bushes have already died, victims of the dreaded Rose Rosette disease. Until recently, I didn't know this scourge existed, but it's been around since the 1940s. It was rarely seen until decades later, when Knockout roses became an ubiquitous--and beloved--feature in gardens. And why not?

For the last few years, I've pretty much lived in a state of exhaustion, the kind that cries out for Geritol and afternoon naps. Last fall, a heart arrhythmia wore me to a frazzle, and I just couldn't cook or entertain like I had in the past. But I come from a long line of stubborn Southern women, the kind who refuse let go of the things we love. And food is one of those loves. It's nourishment, yes, but it's also fraught with emotions.
