Foodie Friday and Everything Else

Come on in and grab a warm drink. You're just in time for Foodie Friday and Everything Else.
Like many of you, I'm trying to embrace winter. The temperature crept down to a wicked 10 degrees, and our heat went out. I was grateful when the repairman showed up immediately and found the problem. By January 9th, the temp had climbed to 43 degrees. The forecast says we won't see the sun for a week, but the temperature is a balmy 70. I'm spending time outside, picking up twigs, acorns, and the occasional green sprig, trying to become a student of the colder seasons.
If winter is giving you difficult moments (and judging from what I'm seeing on Instagram, many of my friends are dealing with frigid temps and frightful weather), here are a few ideas from last week's party, sure to bad weather in your rear view mirror.

Mary shows us how to make homemade suet and tend to your backyard flock at Home Is Where the Boat Is.

Pam has put together a winter survival guide at Everyday Living.

After the Christmas pretties are tucked away for another year, our homes can look bare. You'll find ways to spruce up your nest embrace the new season with Debra at Common Ground.

Ellen found a bit of magic in a $2 Goodwill book, the original 1963 version of The Margaret Rudkin Pepperidge Farm Cookbook. Get the details at The Happy Wonderer.

Alexis has put together 7 ideas to stay happy this winter over at Chemistry Cachet.

  1. We had temperatures in the teens in the Dallas area last week, and then yesterday it was 80! I tidied up my patio of all the leaves, and worked around the yard, while the weather was balmy. Thanks for hosting your party, Michael Lee!

  9. I've been cleaning up the dead plants from last week's deep freezer days. Today we hit 80. Who knows if more is yet to come, but couldn't stand looking at the dead ginger stalks and other brown mess in the garden. '-)

  22. Yikes! Doesn't it always seem to be the way that things break down just when you need them the most. Glad the repair man was quick to come and fix your heat.

  23. Good evening, here in England it is freezing at the moment, but I have to say not as cold as Chicago. We have just returned from a 3 week holiday and we loved every minute.
As I have only returned home 2 days ago, I am suffering with jet lag, I don't know if it is time for breakfast or if if it is time for lunch.
I love all your features, especially the bird seed wreath.
    Best wishes.

  24. I wish I could hibernate from the cold! I do love the snow as it's falling, but dealing with it once it hits the ground is quite another matter! And I won't even say aloud that three-letter word—i-c-e!
